I'm just a few streets away from the Cathedral but enjoying great good with my Vino Tinto.
Today's walk was from Sigueiro to my Camino Inglës final destination Santiago de Compostela.
This morning started with foggy blue and somewhat damp conditions ... the bright morning sun soon cleared them and searching for shade was a priority.

7th Day and arrived at SdC
Beautiful start in blue Misty hills around Sigueiro. My Garmin watch reads 21+K, JennyA's / John Brieirley's Camino Inglés says only 16+. Did I get lost again....😃😅😂 The 2nd photo is the delightful owner of the Albergue I was in at Sigueiro.
Right now I'm enjoying a Estrella Draught beer. The whole area is full of locals enjoying the lovely evening 🇪🇸 There will be a 2nd Estrella tonight 🥳Weiterlesen

SdC Albergue Seminario Mentor

I'm getting ready and experiencing accommodation challenges. Lucky me I've lock-in all the nights I need at 2 wonderful Albergues.
Arriving to SdC days early, required a lot of email searching. Lucky Brucee ended up scoring 2 Albergues that are top of the liston my Wish List. Albergue Seminario Mentor (4 nights) and the Hospedería San Martín Pinario. Seminario. This is right at the Cathedral and allows me to eat in their classy restaurant) THANKS JENNY.A. and Carmel plus Jill !

SdC and my challenges

In the heat of the day I was determined to get my Camino Inglës Credential. Earlier this year I told myself the Credential was only a piece of paper.... and although I had ones from Camino Francés and Camino Portuguese, it was son Richard who had these framed... my respect for these Credentials won through. Yes they signify achievements in my life's journey. Now I have a 3rd. Lucky Brucee. Here are a few photos in and around SdC. On another issue I understood (or failed to realise) how busy the 2023 Camino's are. Last minute accommodation has been impossible at some points. Today (2 October) I tried to get a Train ticket from SdC to Madrid. My booking was 6 days from now and all I could get was a seat in the evening and that is 1st class. Just hope my Albergue Manager will let me in when I arrive after 11pm 🤞Weiterlesen

ReisenderHi ANN only in parts is it v busy. It comes in waves. Yesterday when I qued up for my Compostela, I got straight in.... as I went out there was a queue. And as I mentioned getting a Renfe train to Madrid 4 days in advance was an issue. I should add the 8th is a Sunday

ReisenderYes ANN. My ability to schedule is not my highest quality. In this case fixing date with Canada, Camino Inglës And wanting/needing to meet with you, Terry and Carmel were challenges I needed my dear June to fix. But we do have some of the 7th a d 8th 😂

I finally got my sketch book out.
I savoured gourmet Lunch at San Martin Pinario and pleasantly relaxed in their impressive grounds.
Slow walk to Cathedral. Took Saint James Tomb walk past and ended up behind the Alter where the devoted placed both hands on the back of a shiny brass 'sculpure'.
BMCS friendships count and catching up with Carmel before she's off to Fennistre ACU Group was the highlight of my day 😂Weiterlesen

In 20 minutes I catch the Renfe train to Madrid. BYEBYE SdC.
One of the extra special joys the Camino provides is the meeting up with BMCS in Santiago de Compostela.
As you can see it was one of those special days.

My last day in Madrid

Last nights 4 hours late arrival into Madrid took a toll for an early and intended Art Museums tour. There is only a short walk from my Hosta to many Art Galleries and Museum's. . I managed a good late breakfast before a quick tour of the Prado, and the Museo Reina Sofía. Prado is full of Master pieces... 1700s late 1800s and more, but what I did not want to miss was Picasso's Guernica in Museo Reina. Picasso painted this in protest to Franco's war on his people and Germany's bombing of the Basques in the Pyrenees.
This exhibition includes large preliminary sketches. Guernica is gory and Picasso wish was to demonstrate the carnage of Franco's war. The painting was a private commission and 1st appeared in a Paris exhibition 1937(?). It was then shipped to NYC until after democracy returned to Spain.
Madrid enjoyed lovely weather Sorry for no scenic photos of their fountains etc.
It is goodbye to Camino and the Spanish culture. See you all in Oz 🥰Weiterlesen
