• Glenfarg - Hamish & JJ Farm

    June 3, 2025 in Scotland 🌬 13 °C

Hamish known as (Scotty) and JJ were lucky enough to have Trish and Me stay with them for 2 nights, Scotty and Johanna came into Stirling to have a meal and catch up the night we arrived as Johanna was leaving early the next morning to Cornwall for work. Great to catch up with her as she stayed with us in January 2024. Scotty and JJ manage a large 1100 acre farm 15min out of Perth running about 1250 ewes plus hoggets 125 breeding cows(wintered in side) buy in a large number of store lambs and calves to finish. Scotty gave me a tour of the property and I was very impressed with the quality stock, large wintering and lambing sheds, (all ewes are lambed inside and released to the fields after 2days or when the weather allows) The farm boasts 11 homes and before Scotty and JJ took over there were 5 full time staff, all staff had a house and could stay on the property as long as they wanted after retirement. The farm is mainly easy rolling contour and has great natural shelter. Enough about the farm, Scotty introduced himself to Trish and I in 1991 at the Royal Highland Show in Scotland, a tall lean 18year old with a passion to come to NZ and learn to shear sheep and that’s what he did. He arrived late 1991 to Wyndham stayed with us and started with the Gutsell gang and has returned 19 times to not only represent himself in many Golden Shears but also Lead the Great Britain team in the world championship and many tests against NZ. He has shorn over 600 sheep in a day.
JJ arrived on the scene with Scotty in 2000 and we have had many happy times.
