Well the Birdsville Track is finished. It was fantastic, the wild flowers were wonderful, the grass green & the flies friendly!!
We saw 22 lizards sunbathing in bushes beside the road, Inland Dotterals with chicks, Banded Lapwings with chicks & so much more.Read more

Came over the Old Batatina Rd, Mal was in his element! He stopped every few minutes to take photos of the mountains. They are certainly beautiful and you get a really great view of them going on that track. Only put Mr T in 4x4 once.
    Rained on the first night.

    Mal's heaven!!
We had one night at Base Camp, one at Hallies Hut & one at Cliff Face. All great campsites & all different.
Base Camp looked a little like Heidi's Grandfathers hut in the Swiss Alps. Pine trees everywhere and the cutest little dunny as a hut! Hallies had a great little hut with a pot belly & lots of firewood for a cold night. Cliff Face had an amazing Cliff and was close to the miming ruins.
Even made Mal a Pizza for tea, using my sourdough starter.

    Aug 30–31, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Had a great day doing the scenic loop. We saw 59 Emu's!! On the track.
Had lunch in Blinman at the Bakery. Caught up with Sheila & Sue again there. Then again at the lookout further along the track.
Last time we were in the Flinders we were on Gertie. When we were coming back from Archaroola with our tyre problems, the owner of Merna Moora was just shutting the gate when we rode past. We waved, he waved & we kept going onto Hawker. That was a big mistake as the sunset that afternoon was the best one we had on the trip & we were in a Caravan Park! So this time we stayed, the sunset wasn't as good but not too bad. Found some great pieces for The Enchanted Turret. They are Devils Claw, an American native plant. Had to bring some home!!

Cold & a bit wet today. Not quite as many roos & emu's today. We didn't do much, a bit of driving to the next camp spot & a rock hole.
Had a caterpillar checking out our faux grass (doubt it has seen anything that green for a long time).
Mal repaired and changed a tyre for a lady in the campground.

Had a big day.... 963 images!! Most just need to be deleted unfortunately. I was after the Slender-billed Thornbill but after taking so many photos (just incase) I didn't get it 😒😕
We intended to camp at Pildappa Rock but the campground has changed completely since our first two visits. One ten years ago on Gertie with Ernie and the last time was 7 years ago.
Decided to camp at Minippa at the Lions park.
Lovely and green down here, not usual for SA.

Had a late morning waiting for the condensation in the camper to dry.
Shopped at Ceduna, the pizza shop was shut till tomorrow so we drove on!!
Passed a convoy of Toll Trucks.
First time this trip when country music is still playing into the night. Apparently they won the football so are celebrating big time. Pub is packed and everyone is having a great time.
Made Mal pizza for tea. Music went on till about midnight!!
Had breakfast at the little cafe/general store.

Had a great morning bouncing along the Old Eyre Highway. Had breakfast at Eucla and did some updates.
The wind got up & we got blown along the road. Niko rang, he has been offered the job of field mechanic for Tmba.
Madelyn has gone into hospital and Niko has the grems.
Stopped at a road house that had lots of heath around it and went looking for the Shy Heathwren. Found it but a really bad photo!!

    Photo op!!
Large bush fires have gone through the Woodlands. The trees are coming back now.
The fires went for about 100kms as far as you could see. Very sad...
We had planned on taking the Old Telegraph Line Track but it is closed. Could be because of the fire, not sure. About 99% of the tracks seem to be closed atm.Read more
