    Leaving Home

    11 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Had a big storm at 4.30am that took out some powerlines near us. That meant we had now power till 12pm. Made doing 3 loads of washing a bit hard. Mal got the genie out and we turned over to town water. Finally got away at 4pm.
Got to Bowenville and camped the night. Quite a lot of campervans here for a get-together.
Fairly muddy here so guess they got the storm this morning as well.

    12 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

    Well another storm overnight.
One caravan got bogged leaving and as we were also heading off we winched him out. Toyota versus the Amarok... had to chock the Toyota as the handbrake wasn't strong enough.
Looks like it may be a wet day!!
    Rained until Warra.
Stopped in to see Linda in Chinchilla.
Now we have thick smoke between Chinchilla & Miles!!
Then rain again from Miles to Yuleba!
Caught up with Debbie in Roma, then Ian in Mitchell (stayed the night).
Now appear to have problems with the gas hot water system!! Oh well will look at it in the morning.

    13 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Had a good day. Mal went boundry riding with Ian this morning, I stayed back looking for birds. The hot water system is still playing up.
Decided to suck it up and keep heading west.
Got to Tambo and are spending the night at Lynne's house and will visit Darryl in the morning.Leer más

  • Home again

    15 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Left Tambo at 10am arrived home at 6.15pm.
Water tap was leaking in the corner cupboard but when Mal tried to fix it - it really leaked! Stove top and sink as well as fridge and hot water system have to all come out, so we decided it would be better to do this at home where parts are easier to access and better tools. So home we went.
We did catch up with Alli & Gary Briggs in Tambo before we left. They headed to Blackall to do a fencing job.

  • Home still

    15 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Had a big day trying to get things sorted. Mal got the leak fixed and the hot water system now seems to be behaving itself after it was partially pulled apart, we think the leak corroded some of the electrical bits.
After pulling the fridge out, Mal has discovered some of the brackets are cracking so tomorrow he will work on that. Hopefully on Monday we can head off again.
It is a bit hard living here as we are trying to keep the house as empty as possible. Even thought of sleeping in the camper but at 1 degrees tonight well maybe not!

  • Augathella

    25 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Third attempt........ Had a good days travel. Stopped in Roma for some earphones for Mal as he had left his at home.
Then we stopped for lunch at Ooline Park. Apparently one of the oldest rainforest trees in Qld. We never thought we would see one out this way! Heaps of birds there - sitellas, silvereyes, double bars, honeyeaters, plus lots more.
Went for a walk along the empty creek in Augathella and found about 40 Apostlebirds.
    Having a campfire tonight.

Excellent night with the eclipse and a great day sitting around the lake watching the birds.
Got up early but still no Crake. Decided to move on. Did a bit of grocery shopping in Barcaldine then drove over to Isisford.Leer más

  • Peter McGoffin's Property

    30 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

We were stopped on the side of the road looking for birds in the Spinifex when a Cattle truck pulled over. It was the owner of the property checking to see if we were poaching birds!!!
He knew my cousin and did some fencing on our property.
He said we could camp on his place.
Also said he has the night Parrot on his property. Might chat with him tomorrow.

  • Opalton Bush Camp

    31 de mayo de 2021, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Well only four other campers here tonight. An unusual campground with rain water tanks for drinking water and dam water for washing your stones!
Paul the caretaker gave me a guided tour of the bird sites I am interested in. I promptly forgot the last one so had to send Mal over for a mud map!
Having our first wood-fired pizza here!!! How lucky are we. Today I got really good photos of the Opalton Grasswren. So really great day overall.

Had lunch at the Kynuna Blue Heeler pub. Sounds like we are doing a pub crawl.
Actually we are following the show circuit. Winton, Cloncurry and next week Mt Isa. Not sure where it goes next.

Stopped in for a look! Wow what a beautiful mine.
Stayed last night at a new campsite named Waterhole!!! Some amazing mountain ranges around here. They look a bit like the East & West Macdonald Rangers. However you get to drive in and out and around and about instead of along the side.Leer más
