    February 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Started with the sail away show, followed by John Muq - funny and talented fellow from Uganda - and next Little Feat ( worth the price of admission for the cruise) and finally Jim Lauderdale. A good day!Read more

  • Day 3 part 1

    March 2, 2025, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

Started our day with breakfast in "the great outdoors" breakfast room. Lovely to sit by the rail and watched the ship move through the water. We attended an interesting song writing workshop with Daniel Rodriguez and followed that with another Steve Poltz concert. He is very entertaining and he's a good musician. We next went off to a Susan Werner concert in the Stardust hall and she finished off with La Vie en Rose - beautiful. Sadly this app will not let me post a 2+ min clip of her singing. We watched Rachel and Vilray for a bit, Emmylou Harris and Anu DiFranco.Read more

  • Day 4 part 1 stop at St Croix US VI

    March 3, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We started the day with the six of us (Marilyn, Tom, Pat, Cal, Barry and me) having a long breakfast in the great outdoors restaurant. Next we ventured into town to look around. Not much to see but we did come across an animal rescue shop where we were able to hold two sister puppies. They were so adorable. Photos to come when I get them from Marilyn. We returned to the ship for several performances; John Fulbright ( so good), Jeff Tweedy and Nickel creek together, Grace Potter. For a lot of fun Devon Gilfillian hosted a disco show that included many of the artists performing old standards like "I will survive", "you sexy thing" and many others. The costumes were hilarious among the passengers. I haven't seen so many sparkles since a new years eve party in the 70s.Read more

  • Celebrating our 30th anniversary

    March 4, 2025 in Antigua and Barbuda ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Cagney's steakhouse on the Cayamo cruise. Our friends Marilyn, Tom, Pat and Cal surprised us with a nice bottle of Barolo awaiting our arrival at Cagney's. And another exciting thing happened! We were waiting for our table at the same time as Scott Sharrard and Tony Leone (lead singer and drummer of Little Feat) and Barry struck up a conversation with them. They were lovely and happy to take a photo. #dreamscometrueRead more

We also saw a little of Jim Lauderdale. Had a sushi dinner with saki cocktails. Getting ready now for the final Little Feat concert.Read more

  • The Florida keys day 1

    March 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The cruise arrived back in Miami and we took off to pick up our rental car and drive to Key Largo for a tour on the real African Queen boat from the movie of the same name - one of Barry's all time favorites.

After our tour we shared a fish sandwich with key lime sauce at Hobo's, as recommended by our boat captain. Our server also talked us into sharing a piece of key lime pie which was pretty great too!

From Key Largo we traveled to Key west and checked into our beautiful hotel in time for their happy hour. Finally we went to the Moon Dog Cafe as recommended by a woman from Detroit who was on the African Queen with us. A fun place with great food and drinks. Blackberry Jalapeno Margaritas!

  • Key West

    March 8, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We started the day visiting Hemingway House. Aside from it being the home of Hemingway, it is best known for being a cat refuge. Most of the kitties are descendants of his first polydactyl cat. There are reportedly about 60 living on the premises with about 50 percent being polydactyl. The house is well preserved and the grounds and gardens are beautiful.

We returned to the Moon Dog Cafe for a late brunch - blackened shrimp eggs Benedict and Bourbon Bacon French Toast - both of which were fabulous, as was the key lime pie.

We returned to the pool at our hotel where we and other residents were entertained by an iguana.

Later we walked to the southern most point of the US and then retired again to the Moon Dog for some Sangria and a snack.

  • Last full day in key west

    March 9, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

We mostly wandered around town - so many beautiful houses - today but we did visit the cemetery and the Legal Key West Rum Company (as recommended by Marilyn Hooper) https://www.keywestlegalrum.com/

We visited the Ramshead, where we were entertained by the multitude of wild chickens and roosters.

Then we checked into the lighthouse hotel right across the street from Hemingway House and a block from our go to restaurant Moon Dog Cafe. We lounged by the pool and later grabbed a pizza that we ate on our private porch and watched the world go by.

  • Travel back to Miami

    March 10, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

We slowly made our way to Miami, stopping first at the Blonde Giraffe key lime pie factory in Tavernier (recommended as the best key lime pie). Barry tried their frozen key lime pie on a stick and I went for the regular key lime pie. Both very good.

We made our way through key largo and on to Homestead where Marilyn told us we had to stop at Robert is Here. A huge fruit stand, vendor of great fruit milkshakes and a menagerie of animals on the grounds.

Finished the day with oysters on the half shell at catch of the day. They even had crystal hot sauce from New Orleans!
