  • Day 2. Full crazy day, huskies and santa

    February 17 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -10 °C

This will be in 2 or 3 parts lol.
Well, Day 2 here in Finnish Lapland what a day so far, my first full day here, this morning I had a lovely breakfast, even if I did sit down, got back up and my spoon had been cleared away lol.
I went to the Safartica office and met my guide Boris for the husky thrill of speed tour, there were quite a few of us..I decided to wear one of there sexy look all in ones,of course I was given a child's/dwarfs one!
Well...thrill of speed indeed, when it was my turn to be at the helm...I crashed 🤣, just the usual day abroad for me, but no wheels involved, just a sledge and lots of furry legs, mine included (it is cold here u know, u need extra warmth)!
Anyway we all got back up, myself, my Austrian passengers and the beautiful huskies, no injuries just laughter 🤣.
After I managed somehow to navigate the rest of the course crash free, we could then make more of a fuss of the huskies, soooo gorgeous.
Then into a hut for some hot berry juice which was gd as I couldn't feel my hands or lips, and we had a talk on the huskies.

When we arrived back to the office I asked Boris about getting to Santa's village and he was taking some people back there so I hitched a lift.
I went in far too many gift shops that I'm broke, had a picture with a giant snowman, sent some postcards from Santa's official post office (of course) which cost a fortune!!! Crossed the arctic line and was live on YouTube for a brief time..it was -9 after all.

Now back at the hotel for a few hours eating some sorta very questionable air dried reindeer snack before I meet back at the office for an aurora borealis picnic...ooohhhhhh sounds fancy, I think may include snow, and be very very cold, also hopefully the lights will make an appearance but god damnit, it's quite cloudy, and the Australians from the morning tour have been here 4 nights and not seen em.

So I'm relying on someone up there to help a gal out pleasssseee 🤞.
    Just another Racquelle adventure xxx

    February 17 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -10 °C

Well when I was left in charge of mushing, I crashed the bloody sledge. Thankfully no injuries to the huskies my passengers or myself!
God it was funny, I mean heading for the bushes knowing we were gonna crash, the faint screams and my eyes closed scary funny 🤣🫣😬 xxxRead more

  • Day 2. Evening Aurora Tour

    February 17 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -11 °C

The lights came out, even the guide was surprised...so we travelled about 45 mins away from the centre of rovaniemi so we didn't have light pollution but it depended on a few factors, if u see stars that's gd (for a change, sometimes seeing the other kinda stars isn't gd) but stars in the sky yes because that means there's not any cloud.
Also no light pollution, solar activity and luck!!!! Wahoo, I'm very pleased. Great night xxx

  • Day 3. Magical reindeer trail xxx

    February 18 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -7 °C

Well I've had an epic afternoon on a beautiful scenic magical sleigh ride with the reindeer.
Mine was called Ailo..he was gorgeous, I mean they all were.. and as we were taken around the forest with snow covered trees galore, the snow fell the whole time, it was just falling on my face and I realised I was just loving life.
Here I am in LAPLAND!!! It was so peaceful.
As I laid my head back and just looked around I had a moment or 2 of just wow, THIS is why I work extra hours..to be able to do THIS!
Also thanks to my guide who indulged me when I said at the age of 46 I'd never done a snow angel, that was great fun, I haven't stopped smiling allll day.
    Lotsa snowy love xxx

  • Day 4. Dinner in ice restaurant

    February 19 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -12 °C

Day 4. Last night here and it's been wonderful, went for a little walk before dinner first.
And then came back to igloo and put lots of layers on ready for my dinner which I was gonna be surrounded by and sitting on ice.

Wow, it was beautiful, first I had a very strong hot berry juice with alcohol lol.
Starter was creamed parsnip soup with bread, then I had already pre-ordered the elk s thought wow why not try that when in Finland , oh my gdness it was sooo soft and melted in your mouth, this was creamy potato.
Then dessert was served on a giant ice snowflake and it was a choc mousses/cheesecake with freeze dried strawberries and was delicious!!!!
When I came out from hotel, the reading on the thermometer read that it was now -18 and boy did it feel it, i spose it's only gonna get colder but I can safely say I've never been anywhere with that temp and glad the igloo is cosy.
I've just made a cup of tea and am lying in complete darkness, seems strange the aurora alarm in the room is 2 lights, don't know how will sleep with that on but I'll maybe stay up until midnight.
The stars tonight are gorgeous whilst i lay here looking up, very magical, come on aurora 🤞 xxx
