    First bubbles

    February 5, 2024 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

My first stop takes me to the beautiful bay of Fellos. A long sandy beach with lush under water fields of Poseidonia seagrass and large patches of sand ripples. Some areas of the larger tripple bay are always sheltered by wind and waves and occasionally seagrass can be found right up to the surface. These unique habitats allow some large fish to shelter in the shallows.Read more

  • Megali Peza Bay

    February 7, 2024 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

This trip takes us to Megali Peza. A beach located in the north coast of Andros. Accessible by dirt road this is a great beach for snorkeling in southern winds or wave riding in northern winds. Some nice caves can be found on the right side that feature stalagmites on the outside walls. As with most northern beaches it drops off quite deep but the sides are full of interesting rocks. Be sure to take a sturdy garbage bag with you and help clean our beaches as this one recieves a lot of floatsam from the northeast and take it to one of the garbage stations in town. Thanks ⛱️Read more

  • Early Bird

    February 9, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

Getting up very early for the perfect sunrise?! Not for everyone indeed but this time it was totally worth it! The lighthouse of Chora sits on top of a rocky island and is probably the prettiest lighthouse of the worldRead more

  • Pirates of the Aegean

    February 10, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Route No. 20 of Androsroutes takes us past Zorgos Beach (Today no snorkeling for me), up a small ridge and down again through a dry river valley. Towards the end of the valley and a steep cliff the route continues left around the coast and into the next small valley. But here a hole in the ground awaits the weary traveler and down again into darkness. A large branch helps to climb down into a spacious cavern. Multiple holes lead you even further into the mountain or open up to a new cavern with a sea view on the other side. These are the Valian Pirate caves!
Tipp: take sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Do not attempt in rain as the caves fill with water and flush everything to the sea. 💦 ☠️

  • Zorgos' deep end

    February 11, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Finally we take a deep dive into Zorgos bay. Big boulders under water offer plenty of shelter for interesting fish. An old swell from the north brings in gentle waves and small fish play in the surf. Inside the many cracks some bass carefully observe the strange snorkler coming thier way and further out huge underwater rock formations offer plenty of interesting freediving opportunities. Afterwards we clean up the beach a bit. Every little help counts to make it the wonderful bay it is.Read more

  • The Wedding Beach

    February 13, 2024 in Greece ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Tucked away in a small valley lies a small beach with a small church and a large tavern. Kyprianos, for some a great place for a wedding and for others a nice habitat of sand and rocks. The shallows are usually calm in prevailing northern winds and one can spot plenty of little sea slugs on the rocks. These cute critters look to me like little bunnies grazing in the algae. They are actually pretty cool as they are solar powered, incorporating algae into their bodies. Some, it seems, are already gearing up for Valentine's day 💝. In the sea grass I could find several operculi (basically a snail's door), also prefect as a gift for Valentine's and the snails that make them weren' far either. Again plenty of fish were hiding in the rocks and even a murrey eel was out and about, but I was too slow with my camera.Read more
