The ‘Nip Home’ to Reset

Plenty of wind, downward run, easy (or was it?).
Left Brighton at 0700 with a prevented mizzen and full genoa,
we ploughed on back to Island Harbour.
Running down wind can be tedious. I think it’s preferable to beating to windward (but then gentlemen do not beat to windward.) We ‘re—discovered’ vs that it’s a balance between the speed the boat can go at and speed the waves are overtaking you. So we added a bit of diesel to the equation just to help push on and keep up with the waves. With the wind building further we eased the genoa back to about half and were still making 6 knots, sometimes 8!!!! Selsey Bill. (the narrow channel between ‘Street’ and ‘Boulder’ buoys resemble a fun fair ride for about half an hour, which was interesting. Coming out of the other side everything settled down again we had a still lumpy ride back to cows.
We were alongside shut down by. 1600. All a bit salty and tired, we retired to our lovely cottage, consumed a magnificent chilli, cooked by Barbara, then consumed a little wine in front of the TV and went to bed. Bit of a long day. What are we gonna do next? Watch this space…..Read more
