Saturday 16 May Helford River to St Ives

We really thought we would do the whole Lizard/Lands End thing over 2 days and, indeed, with our principle of limiting each day to 50 miles or less, it made complete sense to do this. Adding to this, as we rounded the Lizard there was a bit of overfall-ish stuff going on, making the sea a tad lumpy, so we made a decision to tack as planned and make our run up to Newlyn. Once around the Lizard, all things felt quite rosy again, so the senior partner declared her wish to continue.

Helford River, round Lizard and Lands End to St Ives is 62 miles and took us about 10 1/2 hours..
Departed the mooring at 0624 and arrived at 1645

NOTE: despite what any almanac might advise, St Ives as an anchorage is quite uncomfortable when the wind is in the northwest, so little sleep was achieved that night. The good news is that the anchor held fast all night in sand.Read more
