Tuesday 26 May Aberdaron to Caernarfon

Our lovely niece Samantha’s birthday

Again, a bright, sunny, windless day. This time, in order to arrive at the fairway mark outside Menai Strait, we had foul tide all the way there. Once we arrived exactly on time, the flood tide (HW Caernarfon -3) took us the 5 mile, one hour transit to Victoria Dock to arrive exactly at HW-2, the time advised for the tidal gate access. Met by the lovely Fion (dock master) she took our lines. Our friend Mike is using his computer expertise to find webcam footage and tracking info online and is putting together a superb pictorial diary of this trip. VMT Mike.

Managed to get ashore to Ainsworths Fish and Chips, reported by locals as the best chippy in these here parts. 45 minute wait from order to deliver, thank goodness there are benches to share with the other expectant diners, and they give you a number so all is fair. Moved from the ‘waiting benches’ to the ‘dining benches’ and made fairly short work of a very pleasant battered haddock and chips. We have discovered that ‘last night’s) chips come back a treat using the air fryer, and we just happened to procure one of those for Wight Mistress during our short sojourn back in Island Harbour (nearly 4 weeks ago) between the abortive east transit and this current west-about voyage.

Ended up in the ‘Black Boy’ pub, along the castle walls, for a night cap, then back to bed. Nightmare!!! During the night Steve was up with bad leg cramps, ending up sleeping on the saloon seats so Barbara would not awake sleep deprived.Read more
