    Harpers Ferry

    A quick stop at Harper Ferry National Historic Park. This is where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet in a V. Robert Harper started a ferry across here in 1747.

    We saw the US Armory that George Washington commissioned. Here in the 1800’s many innovations fueled the Industrial Revolution. Most notable was the invention of manufacturing with interchangeable parts.

    In 1859, John Brown, an abolitionist, seized the armory. While the raid failed and Brown executed, attention was now on slavery and this helped push the nation into civil war. The raid was a symbol of freedom.
