  • Goodbye Kodachrome!

    10 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

Maddie woke us up about 11:30pm to show us the night sky and wow, it was breathtaking!!! So worth it! We could see the Milky Way, Big Dipper, Pegasus and more! She even had a handy app on her iPad that you point at the sky and it tells your the constellations. Fancy!

    Until next time Kodachrome!

*Video is from our way in, but fun so we’re adding it here.

  • Smoking Truck

    10 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 95 °F

So we had a smoking truck situation today that landed us on the side of I-15 in the tiny section of Arizona about 10 miles from the nearest exit, which was in Nevada.

A very kind man stopped with an empty mini van who happened to be heading to Mesquite, NV to visit friends from his mission. He usually has his five kids and wife with him, but they luckily chose to stay up in Cedar City for the day. So Sarah, Patrick and Maddie headed to McDonald’s to wait for word while poor Angus stayed with the truck & trailer in 106 degree heat with no shade while he waited for the tow truck.

Unfortunately, with the uptick in travel this summer it took hours to get a tow and by then the service station was closed for the day. So off we went to the nearest hotel which was super close to the dealership. Phew!

A huge thanks goes to our new friend Benji who rescued us from the highway and then by some grace was heading back north that afternoon so not only drove the three of us to Mesquite to get out of the sun and wait at McDonald’s, but then turned around and drove us back north 40 minutes to St.George, UT where there, fortunately, is a Chevy dealership. We are thankful for these miracles, exceptional human beings in this world willing to help strangers and for everyone being safe and sound tonight.

    11 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 95 °F

Truck is fixed and we are heading north to the Bartlett’s in Boise, Idaho to regroup. We’ll save Cali for another trip. What a day and a half in St.George, UT! Thankful for the pool at the hotel to cool off. Also, the Mo Better’s Hawaiian restaurant next door was AMAZING!!! Such yummy food!!!Leer más

  • Accident on I-15

    11 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

Shortly after getting on the road to drive north, we came across a 2 hour back-up on I-15. Seems a semi truck hit a car which hit an RV and the three vehicles caught on fire and were totaled. It was quite the mess! Add in the 100 degree heat and it was a doozy of a drive.

To pass the time we played the license plate game and saw some interesting things as well:

    License plates:
    UT
    AZ
    CA
    NV
    IN
    CO
    Alberta
    ID
    MN
    WY
    TN
    Ontario
    Maine (truck trailer)
    TX

We have so much empathy for:
    Overheated car x2
Overheated truck in the middle lane!
    Truck pulling 3 containers uphill!

Drone - A guy was driving his car and flying a drone at the same time to check out the traffic. That’s how slow we were moving. You can see the drone above bridge in the picture if you look closely.

    Specialty plates:
    frknstn

Lamp Wins? - Angus was wondering why the lamp won the front seat over a person? 🤔

  • Bar Gernika

    14 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 95 °F

For dinner we went to the Basque area of Boise and hit up the Bar Gernika on a recommendation from our Boston friends, the Archabals. If you look at the circle of names theirs is one of them! They have family here and told us to get the ch and they were delicious!

We ordered lamb grinders with a dipping sauce and a chorizo sun sandwich. Outstanding meal!

  • Boise History Tour

    14 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 91 °F

We completed our walking tour of Boise with a trip to the state capital.

Will and Sammy’s school takes the students on week long trips of Hells Canyon and Sawtooth National Recreation Area made possible by Cecil Andrus, a famous conservationist and Governor of Idaho as well as Interior Secretary of the United States. He famously took President Carter and his family on a rafting trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River to share and showcase his beautiful state.

The last picture of the power boxes was painted by Sammy’s Kindergarten class (the one on the right) and Will’s 4th grade class. Will drew one of the circles and Sammy one of the buildings.

  • Camel’s Back

    15 de agosto de 2021, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

We played on a huge playground and then worked out before heading up to the top of Camel’s Back. Beth had to do the monkey bars without touching the ground before we could hike up! She rocked them! Sarah had an epic fail. 😂

*You can’t see very far because of the smoke blown in from the CA and OR fires. 🔥
