    Chattanooga

    The last week we spent in Chattanooga at Nicole & Colten, friends of Sandro which he met when he was in Nebraska for his exchange. We only got to climb 2 days on rock as weather still was bad. Luckily we had a shelter and didn't have to stay all the week in the van. After 4 months of only rock climbing we touched plastic again. It felt good to do some training at a gym.
    Beside climbing we got to taste delicious jackfruit tacos and got invited to a potluck diner party.
    Chattanooga resumed:
    Amazing bouldering
    Delicious food
    A lot of relaxing on the couch (leki loved it)

    New Orleans

    On the way to Mexico we decided to stop in New Orleans and get some city life feeling after many weeks in the forest.
    We enjoyed the day wandering around the city, listening to live music and having a good coffee & french donuts at the famous Café du Monde.     Península Bolivar

    Spent our first night at the beach 🤩
    After many hours driving and seating we were happy to start the next morning with a run on the beach and a van shower afterwards. We didn't go for a swim in the sea as we were warned that there might be flesh eating bacterias in the water. Probably harmless but we didn't want to take a risk.
    Nevertheless it's a beautiful beach with charming beach houses which are all built on tilts as a protection against floiding.

    Mexico first impressions

    We smoothly crossed our first boarder and arrived safely in La Ciénega de González 🇲🇽

    Life is simple, nature is beautiful and food is great 💕

    With the mexican dollar we felt rich for the first time. The purse is full with 1000$ bills😂

    Christmas we spent in a cozy cabin with an old swiss friend and other swiss guys we met here. They are also travelling and climbing but not with a van but their 🚲🚲💪     Czytaj więcej

    Potrero Chico

    Potrero Chico is famous for Multipitch climbing (especially among the americans). As I (Nadja) don't really like MP climbing I wasn't looking forward to this stop. But surprise it was one of the best weeks so far!
    We stayed at an amazing place called "finca del caminante". There you could rent rooms or camp, enjoy warm showers and a swimming pool, stretch or relax in the yoga room and chillout lounge and use a big kitchen equiped with every tool you can imagine (even a fancy coffee machine for delicious cappuccinos). But this place would have been only half as great without it's people. It was dominated by the swiss crew 😜 one couple we already knew from el Salto and the other one we got to know in the finca.
    We shared many talks, laughs and delicious food. Beside the camping we also enjoyed surprisingely good climbing, finally got to taste some tamales and Vini got his haircut improved for $3.50 😎
    After this wonderful week it was time to leave and start exploring the desert.     Czytaj więcej

    Zona del silencio

    When you are just searching for a spot to spend the night and you find the best spot ever! On our way from Potrero Chico to Peñoles we spontaneously found this place to sleep, turns out that it's the nicest hot springs I have ever been! This place is in the called Zona del Silencio. It is known as a mistical place with a strong magnetic field where the batteries got discharged faster, the radio waves got blocked, there is a high concentration of falling meteorites, and according with locals, a frequent occurrence of strange lights in the skies 👽. To make this place even more special, 15min walk from the hot springs there is a cave with some really nice, prehistoric paintings, there's even a 6 fingers hand 🙄👽.

    Peñoles

    Some days of calm and peace in the desert. We were told that Peñoles is a great place for bouldering in the desert of Mexico. It's getting more famous recently as there were around 100 people climbing there in the begining of January. So we were quite surprised when we arrived and didn't see a single car or person. After some minutes we found a nice couple that showed the area and some cool boulders. The next day we met another group of climbers from Mexico City. We joined them for bouldering and spent some nice evenings at the bonefire together.
    Peñoles has a very short climbing season per year (dec-feb) as in the rest of the year there are too many animals 🦂🐍🐺🐝 and it's getting too hot.     Czytaj więcej

    Hueco Tanks

    After 6 weeks in Mexico we are back in the US. Boarder crossing was very easy, no questions asked, only a quick inspection of our veggies.
    We spent 5 days in the regional park "Hueco Tanks". Access is a bit complicated and expensive as you have to pay every day the park entry and there are only 70 people allowed to enter the self guided area in the north. If you want to discover the rest of the area you have to hire a guide to access. Luckily we met again our friend Josh and he has a friens who is a guide in Hueco Tanks. So we enjoyed a great day in the east region and could climb many of the classic boulders.
    Leki was happy when we finally left Hueco Tanks as he was not allowed to leave the paved road and spent most of the day in our van 😪     Czytaj więcej

    Grand Canyon

    After a failed climbing mission (rock and access road were covered in snow 😅) we spontaneously decided to visit the Grand Canyon. We chose the perfect day to visit the huge canyon, no clouds or fog, totally blue sky and not too much wind. The next day (the originally planed day to visit) would have been much more windy and cloudy.
    My mum told me that when she visited the Grand Canyon it was around 40°C and that she only hiked half way down down to the the canyon because of the extrem heat.
    For us it was the oposite. All icy and covered in snow. We didn't even try to hike down 😅
    Also without the hike we were impressed by the dimensions and views we got to see. With the perfect weather we could even see the mountain 100km faraway, which is not often possible!     Czytaj więcej

    Route 66

    Travelling on the famous Route 66.
    A scenic, famous and old road conecting Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California.
    We passed the small village Oatman where you could get a feeling of the old Wild West. In Oatman the wild donkeys are chief of town now. They seem kind and cute but they can get very aggressiv especially with dogs. We were warned about 4 times that they will go after Leki because they think he is a Coyote. Czytaj więcej

    Joshua Tree

    Joshua Tree National Park, home of the name giving Joshua Trees and paradise for trad climbing.
    We spent a wonderful week in this place, climbing (mostly Vini, Nadja is still no trad climber 😜), relaxing, freezing, enjoying the sun and had a digital detox as there is no signal in the park.
    Although the campground had almost no service (only toilets and garbage disposal) it was one of the nicest places we stayed so far.     Czytaj więcej

    Red Rocks / Arizona Hotsprings

    Atipical rain and snow let us climb less than we wished to. The sandstone in the Red Rock Canyon is extremly fragil, especially after rain. You have to wait around 36h until its perfectly dry. Nevertheless we spent good days there. Making new friends, seeing old friends and meeting climbing legend Alex Honold 😜
    Good activity for rainy days or the days after, is visiting the Arizona Hot Springs just 30min out of Vegas. The 3miles walk is totally worth it. But we felt quite wobbly and hungry after the warm water and the walk back to the car 🙃     Czytaj więcej

    Las Vegas

    One day in Vegas with "Birthday boy Vini" 🥳
    1. Breakfast with Claire, Gunter and Alex at a french Crêpes Restaurant
    2. Climbing session at the gym (Vini got 2 free day passes for his birthday)
    3. All you can eat Sushi with Jeff
    4. 🍻🍹at rebar with Juri, Tabea and Jeff

    The gambling and the strip we discovered on other days. Let's say we are no good gamblers and typical Vegas tourists 😂

    St. George

    Fanatic climbing days in St. George.
    Meanwhile the sandstone was drying we were exploring the limestone in Hurricave. Poor rock quality (Vini says the chossiest limestone he has ever climbed on) but fun routes to climb. Our bodytension got tested or trained by all the roof climbing. Beside climbing we met some good people and 🐶 at the cave with whom we spent the next days with.
    As soon as the sandstone was dry we went to Moe's valley where you can find tons of good boulders. We almost started to feel like real boulderers and not only sport climbers 😉
    Rest days we spent in the Zion nationalpark (beautiful but not that impressiv - maybe also influenced by bad weather?!) or in the $1 shower of the community center 😜     Czytaj więcej

    Road to Moab

    Arches National Park

    As mentioned in the previous post, Vini got a big kidney stone. He was suffering for 3 days and nights until he could finally get rid of it. Happiest pee ever when he found the stone in the bottle. Beside pain we were dealing with health insurance calls/mails and the uncernity of not knowing if surgery is needed to remove the stone or if he can get rid of it naturally.
    To make it even worse, it was raining all the time 🙈
    But between some pain attacks the sun came out and Vini felt better so we decided to visit the Arches National Park. With this beautiful views and some sun we felt immediately better.     Czytaj więcej

    Indian Creek

    4 days in Indian Creek:

    Day 1
    Helping the Access Fund building the path to a climbing sector. Carrying big rocks in groups of 4 with a net, hand carrying smaller rocks and building some rock walls that the new path wont get washed away. Let's call it a good activ restday. It was a fun day out in the sun with good people but we were happy to go back climbing the next day.

    Day 2
    Every weekend the Access Fund offers free coffee on the parking. While you enjoy coffee you can share and get information about climbing and nature, find a climbing partner or just have a nice chat.
    At the climbers coffee we met a slovakian couple which is also travelling through Americas and climbing.
    As you need a lot of climbing gear in the Creek we decided to team up and go climbing together.

    Day 3&4
    A lot of crack climbing, sharing beers, food and stories with our slovakian friends and just having a good time.

    PS. Crack climbing is hard, painful and we felt like total beginers. But we had a lot of fun anyway.     Czytaj więcej

    Moab - St. George - Las Vegas

    On our way back from Moab to St. George we wanted to visit Bryce canyon and some slot canyons. At 8am we left our sleeping place in capitol reef national park (at 2000m elevation) and started driving direction Escalante. But soon after, at 2450m elevation we had to return. Too much snow and ice for our van. And the road was suposed to go even higher up to 3000m.
    That meant no Escalante or slot canyons for us and we decided to go directly to Bryce Canyon. Only to abort this mission too, a few minutes later. Heavy storms announced..
    Next stop St. George, looking for dry rock to climb. Didn't find any but met a couple of friends there and decided to go all together to Las Vegas as the weather was looking promising.
    In the end we had a great time in Vegas with old and new friends, enjoying sun and nature.     Czytaj więcej

    Death Valley Part 1

    On our way from Las Vegas to the Pacific Coast we crossed the Death Valley. Extreme conditions like the heat (up to 50°C in summer) are name giving. We enjoyed perfect temps between 17-23°.
    Until now it's one of our favourite National Parks where we spent the longest time so far. Very diverse landscape and attractions.

    *Mesquite flat Sand Dunes
    *Badwater Basin salt lake with lowest point in Americas (-86m)
