    NYC day 1

    * living in Latin hood, speaking more spanish than english
    * subway passing next to our window = earplugs for sleeping. (why is it not underground??)
    * stupid laws/creative solutions. dogs have to be carried in a kennel or similar..

    Leaving the city

    People are very helpful in NY! They help you with everything without even asking them for help. We also got a free lift as we were waiting at the bus stop with an other guy who was headed the same direction. When he saw that the bus had a 30min delay he decided to call an uber because he was late for work. He invited us to share the uber but didn't accept any money. Thanks guy 🙏
    We also had a negativ/strange encounter with a man in a wheelchair. He was freaking out about taking the same bus and told us to take the next bus. Vini tried to discuss with him but in the end the man got out of the bus and we got in 😅😬
    Now were leaving the city behind and are heading north to get our 🚐🤗

    Start of the roadtrip

    We meet the lovely swiss couple Alice & Köbi at our camping for the car exchange. After many instructions, tips (Alice & Köbi are roadtrip experts after 3.5 years travelling from Patagonia to Alaska) and paperwork we are finally ready to start our own roadtrip 🤩
    Thank you for this amazing van!!
    Every minute we discover new stuff they left us behind in the van 🤗
    It will take some time until we discover and organize everything 😅

    Restday

    Restday was more stressful and tyring than a climbing day 😅 we spent the day organizing the van, googling where to buy/throw away/repair many things..
    Also some baking was done as we all know they don't have the best bread in the US 😉
    PS. I'm definitely not used anymore to 15degrees! Especially after a very cold/very hot outdoor shower with a lot of wind 😂    Read more

    Rainy day = another rest day = repairing/investigation day.
    We came to this small town because we need to repair our heating system and google told us that here we would find a mechanic specialized in our heating.
    Unfortunately this repair center was only spezialized in heatings for the big yellow school buses 🚍
    Later on we met a guy at Walmart who made some calls for us, getting us help from the "mobile RV doctor". So 45min later the "doctor" parked next to us and started examinating our van. But we weren't lucky, he didn't know how our system works.
    Hours later we found online some promising business close to our next climbing destination. So keep finger crossed that this one can help us🤞

    Into the wild

    The last two days we spent in a wonderful place in the forest. Almost no people and phone signal, only nature. We felt like in the wilderness of Canada. Swimming in a beautiful pond together with the beavers at sunset was just amazing 🥰
    Also a special kind of porcupine (urson) was saying hello. We couldnt get any picture of this one as we were stressed about leki chasing it 🙈 probably he was just curious an not really chasing it as the 🦔 was really slow and leki right behind it!
    Of course climbing was not missing at this magical place. First day most of the routes were wet but the next day we could enjoy the steep, juggy granit to its fullest! (climbing pics and videos coming later)    Read more

    800 miles

    First long drive
    * we have the impression that most of the time we are driving it's raining or dark 😅

    New River Gorge part 1

    First days in New River Gorge:
    * rock is amazing
    * morpho routes and many jumps
    * heating got fixed
    * weather is not great but we are still able to climb
    * bad weather = no solar panel charging = currently without electricity
    (board battery charging via motor will be fixed soon)
    * we are great at cooking, every meal is delicious so far 😋
    * getting used to van life and improvisation
    * every day working and improving on something new in our new home 🚐
    * forest/nature reminds us of south of 🇧🇷

    NRG part 2

    * electricity is back, board battery is charging 👌 thanks a lot to Bridge Bound Camper. If you ever have a problem with your van around NRG thats the place to go!!
    * went to a coffee place inside of an old catedral. Place was great but we chose the wrong coffee. Café au lait in the 🇺🇸is definitely not the same as in 🇨🇭🇨🇵 😂
    * tested the bikes that came together with the van. Both are too small for us but we still had some fun on a 7miles bike trail through the forest. (biking was not really a rest day activity, it felt harder than climbing 😅)
    * first time trad climbing after the Greenland Expedition in 2018 for Vini. Good day for practice and a reminder that 7c+ trad is hard. Don't know who was suffering more Vini climbing / Nadja belaying?
    * climbing many beautiful classics

    Bye bye NRG

    We enjoyed our 2 weeks at the New River Gorge a lot. Thanks to our van #americas project, instagram and some stalking skills we got invited for diner by a lovely family. They live close to the NRG and have an amazing house which they are building all by themselfs for the last 12 years. Our swiss number plate got the attention of Elizabeth because during winter she and her family live and work in Switzerland. Great evening with good food, beer, vine, talks & laughs. International evening it was 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🇧🇷 🇨🇭
    Unfortunately we forgot to take a picture together.

    Hello Red River Gorge

    Hello climbing paradise, hello Red River Gorge 💛
    * beautiful coloured woods
    * perfectly shaped sandstone with pockets, crimps, jugs, steeep to slightly overhanged walls, endurance or bouldery routes.. You find them all..
    * goodbye Walmart hello Miguel's Pizza campground. Very simple but cheap climbers camping (how we like lit 😉). Altough on the weekend the camping seems to be a festival. Way too many people. You have to fight for your parking spot 😅
    * havent tasted the famous Miguel's Pizza yet. We are waiting for a special ocasion because otherwise we would probably eat a pizza everyday = 💸and the trip would soon be over 😂
    * our van is great but not made for parking at climbing sectors. most of the time we have to park before the climbers parking lots which means more walking and sometimes even paying 10$ to leave the van on a private parking. We also made the painful experience (💸) that even if you pay for the parking youre not safe from towing. You can imagine how fun it was to arrive at the parking at 8pm tired, hungry and your van is not there anymore 🤬 so here an advice for everybody: never write your license plate # on a post it and put it inside the envelope, always write it ON the enevelope itself!!!

    RRG 3.0

    * welcomes and goodbyes
    * from summer to winter 👙➡️ 🧣🧤
    * we learned to climb with 2°C and rain
    * cold nights: frozen side dor of our van, leki gets to sleep in our bed, many sheets and cuddling keep us warm
    * "the boss" got a sweater to keep him warm
    * next week temps will be raising again 🤗
    * there was 🏀 game between Red River Gorge and New River Gorge climbers to decide which crag is the best in the US 😜 This time the NRG won which means equal wins for both after some years playing against each other.

    Bye Bye Red River Gorge

    We were struggling to decide when to leave the Red, so the weather decided for us. Rain and condensation left all the walls damp. Many rainy days ahead, means time to move on to our next destination. 
    The rain didn't let us to finish our project and we had to leave them undone. Probably only one more day was needed for both of us - sooo close!! But thats rock climbing and there will be many more routes to come on our trip 🤗

    These six weeks here were a truly climb🧗 - eat🥙 - celebrate with new and old friends🎉  - sleep 😴 - repeat🔁 fest. 

    Thanks to everyone who shared moments here with us. We came here in search of good climbing, but also to make connections and create nice memories. See you somewhere down on the road!     Read more
