Activities on “At-Sea” Days

When planning this trip, I must admit that I was a little apprehensive about all the “At-Sea” days. (7 originally planned). As many of you who know me can attest, I like to keep busy and I feared that I would become bored! This is simply not the case. I started watching Lincoln Lawyer on the plane trip and have not been able to finish season 3 yet! I also have not completed listening to my audiobook (even though I listen to it on the treadmill) and in my actual “book” book I have only read a handful of chapters.
I thought that even though I have mentioned several of the onboard activities in earlier blogs, I would run down the activities I have participated in so far on the cruise.
I have been running every second day in the gym, which has afforded me the unsupported excuse to indulge in desserts on a regular basis. Of course, writing and picture editing (in one of the many lounges) while sipping cappuccinos or Thai lattes takes up a good chunk of my time. Eating is the next large time hog. What with breakfast, lunch and then 3 course dinner, with fellow passengers, this activity eats up a minimum of three hours per day.
Team led activities fill in gaps in the afternoons and early evenings. These include Team Trivia, Baggo/Cornhole (bean bag toss to Canadians) and Liar’s club entertain us and provide added chat time. The Expedition Team lead “conversations” and fireside chats to keep our minds engaged with topics all relevant to the voyage (Lots of birding talks). Our daily Recaps & Briefings take up another hour of time. And let us not forget the incredible Polar Plunge one afternoon.
We have also requested and received ship tours to the Bridge, the Medical Centre, the Engine Room and an Art tour throughout the ship. We have further filled in daytime hours with Spa treatments. Late afternoon choices have included caviar and bubbly in Bow lounge, afternoon tea in The Constellation Lounge. On two occasions, I have availed myself of the hot tubs and pools. Let us not forget on of Lindsay’s favourite passtimes, doing laundry.
Evening entertainment starts early in the Expedition Lounge with pre briefing drinks; Tapas & Grooves with the duet of Adam & Lee, pop and soul singers from South Africa; Sushi & Melodies with Craig (multi instrumental popular music performer) in the Club. After dinner regular choices include: Cocktails & Rhythms with Adam & Lee in Constellation Lounge; Riggs & Harmonies with Craig; and an ever changing selection of entertainment in larger venues. The “Special” entertainment have included: concerts by Panos Karan a composer on piano (https://www.panoskaran.com/), tenor and opera performances by Lupi, our cruise director, dance parties in Expedition Lounge; and Superbowl Party in the Discovery Centre.Leer más
