    The chapel of St. John the Evangelist was the largest and most valuable of all those that existed in the cloister of the Monastery of Chagas, in Lamego. In 1928, after the extinction of the convent and before the decision to demolish the building, three chapels (out of a set of nine) and their respective sculptures that were in the cloister were given to the museum.
