• Darwin Day 3

    September 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Today we went to Crocodylus, the local crocodile attraction. We took a boat ride to see jumping crocs in a man-made lake with reportedly 50 crocs, then back on land followed the same guide as he visited more crocs in pens and offered a feed. The deafening sound of the jaws snapping shut and their super-fast reactions and agility confirm I never want to come face to face with a saltwater croc.
I saw another doctor there from Canberra I've worked with - what are the chances! A google helped make sense of them both being here at the same time - an anaesthetic conference, aha!

There's also a zoo of sorts with a collection of other animals in the park, so we spent more time wandering through, saying hello to anacondas, capuchin monkeys, dingoes, baboons, cassowaries, and others. Lastly we found slight refuge from the heat in the attached crocodile museum, where they house displays of croc skins and various other artefacts. Everyone was ready for a sit down by now, so we headed back to the van for icepolyes before Eva joined the neighbours, a couple in their late 20s, playing UNO. We also had a chat to them, and they've come from Tasmania 6 weeks ago, and have 17months planned on the road.
