• Kakadu Day 4

    September 16, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

We awoke today to find we'd had someone go through the back of the ute in the night, searching out alcohol in the car fridge. They would have been very disappointed as the fridge was warm and empty. Nothing else was taken or damaged fortunately.

We ducked back up to Cahills crossing. We'd been watching the tides and knew it was getting higher each day and the morning ride was 4.9m today, so although still not at 6m, we decided to give it another go. Many more crocs and much more action - at least 25 crocs skulking around in the water, a few Crocs crossed the weir, some caught fish, a bit of snappy snappy toward one another.

Back to Jabiru to collect the caravan, before heading south to Cooinda for several nights. We checked in and set up the van quickly, then had pizza lunch at the resort restaurant (buffalo and crocodile), before trying out the resort pool - very family friendly, nice.

We'd booked the sunset Yellow water cruise for this afternoon, so took the short shuttle bus ride to the jetty before hopping aboard and spending 2hours cruising up and down, spotting crocs left right and centre (so many, at least 50) and it was so worth it (even moreso as it was free for kids under 5, one of the awesome things about many activities up here in NT). We also had the pleasure of getting the first rains of the season while on the boat which felt pretty special. It was just a light rain on the boat, but later in the night it really came down (we got about 22mm in the end), waking me a few times because it was so loud.
