Kunanurra Day 1-3

We had a lovely week in Kununurra!
We arrived late Saturday, and spent Sunday relaxing at the Caravan park, enjoying the lovely pool. We got a late rain shower Sunday afternoon and took the opportunity for a rain swim, and we're joined by a couple in their 30s from Perth. They'd been away in their camper trailer since March, but due to car troubles had only been able to travel for about 3 months, and we keen to finally head east and make it out of WA.
Monday we ventured out for a big day trip. First to Mirima National Park (also known as the mini bungles), where we did a relatively short but steep walk to reach a lookout over the large rock formations and the town of Kununurra. Then a short drive out to Ivanhoe's river crossing, only reopened a few days ago as the water levels had been too high. We watched a few others go across before heading over ourselves. This road gives direct access to several springs we wanted to check out and had been recommended. First up Valentine springs, which we could see from the car didn't have much water in, then on to Black Rock pools. I jumped out and did the short walk to the waterhole for some quick recon - awesome little spot but the water levels were again so low we headed off straight away. A bit of 4WDing through to Button's Crossing campground alongside Ethel river for a look - a lovely river, but definitely no swimming in case of crocs, and lots of litter around which is always disappointing. Then to Middle springs for a quick lunch stop only - again no swimming opportunities due to the low water levels, this is definitely a place to revisit at the start of the dry season. Back across Ivanhoe's crossing, then we drove an hour north west to Wyndham, an old port town which once had a thriving meatworks and meat export trade. The meatworks is no longer and town is pretty tired, but the lookout above town offers fantastics views of the 'Five Rivers' in the surrounding area and the Cockburn ranges back towards Kununurra. On the way home we stopped in at The Grotto, a steep stair walk down into a 100m deep water hole, and enjoyed the sunset as we drove home.Okumaya devam et
