We had just one night in Katherine, so we packed up Friday morning and headed into town, bidding farewell to new friends from last night. We'd arranged to get a replacement tyre for the caravan so headed into town to collect it. While Ben did that I took the girls into the Salvos across the street where there was never ending fun with dressups and a whole book library to peruse. We came out with a small bundle, then a quick stopover at the Woolies and the Post Office. By now it was time for lunch so we (regretfully) got Red Rooster, and observed the boarded up windows and doors from past break-ins, perhaps conveying a sense of cynical hopelessness that there is no sense in replacing them at all.

Now we headed West toward WA! We weren't sure how far we'd get, with a few potential options in mind, including free camping just beyond Timber Creek. After a few hours of driving we stopped in a Victoria River Roadhouse for a rest and stretch, and it was just so hot and so muggy. The kids had hit their limit, and Ben was over driving, so we ended up staying here in a powered site overnight to get some A/C relief and extra time out of the car.
