Tom Price inc Hamersley Gorge

We had 3 days here, and I worked all 3 days. Fortunately (!?) the time difference meant I started at 5.30am one day and 6.30am the next day, giving me free time in the afternoon.
The family from Vic we'd met at Pardoo and Point Samson were staying here too, so the kids enjoyed hanging out again while I worked. We don't actually know the parents' names, so Ben refers to the guy as Ginger due to his long red beard.
Our second day we had a lovely surprise to see a couple we'd been camped next to at Broome, Gary and Margaret, camped right next to us again here in Tom Price.
On Thursday we took advantage of my free afternoon and drove the hour up to Hamersley Gorge. It was a relatively easy and quick walk down into the gorge, and the waterhole is right at the bottom so no additional walking needed. We enjoyed a refreshing swim in the main pool, then clambered up some steep smooth rock faces to reach the Spa Pool. This is a beautiful spot which has a running waterfall directly into it, filling the small enclosed swimming hole with warmed water - just like a spa. No photos of the spa pool though as I didn't want to take my phone and drop it into the water. I have finally relented and bought a GoPro, but still waiting for it to arrive to Exmouth - wish I got it months ago 😁 We stopped in Tom Price for dinner, after several others let us know about Windawarri lodge, a buffet style cafeteria for miners accommodated there, but also open to the public. It was a decent meal relatively cheap and the kids ate for free and were happy with their chocolate icecream for dessert and the foosball table. When we got back to the van Ginger came to meet us, as apparently they'd had a massive storm with strong winds come through while we were away, so he and our neighbours had packed our things up and secured them as best they could.Read more
