    Roncesvalles to Zubiri

    August 24, 2016 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

We left at 6:30 am to avoid the heat. We stopped at a small village, Burguette, for breakfast. Hemingway spent some time here and supposedly in the hotel he signed a piano. We climbed 3 small mountains today with small towns in between. Most of the trail was on dirt which was nice after walking on asphalt so much. Thankfully we were shaded on a lot of the trail. Today was 95 and its supposed to stay hot all week. We had a treacherous downhill section today to get into Zubiri, lots of shale, loose rocks, and steep. One of the ladies that we met from Newfoundland fell and had to have 7 stitches in her forehead. She had 2 nurses following her so they immediately started working on her and got her to a doctor here in town. Today was 14 miles, Jerry says 13.7 but I'm rounding up. Tomorrow only 9 - yea.Read more
