    Nestled in Shark Bay is Shell Beach. Due to the shape of the bay the water is extra salty. A perfect environment for Hamlin Cockle shells and an unfavourable environment for their predators. Hence the the beach made from only cockle shells and stretches 60klm up to 10mtrs deep in places.

    The co2 in rain water forms mild acid and dissolves the shells into a cement like structure. Up until the 1980’s the shell concrete was harvested as blocks for building.
