    Whyalla

    May 4, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Camped on the Eyre Peninsula right on the water, and it is amazing. You can see Whyalla across the water, but it is about 30kms drive from here. We were only here 10 mins when we saw our first dolphin.
Spent today at the beach, kayaking, fishing, and walking the boys on the beach. We fished from the kayaks, and both caught a fish, our first from the kayaks and also our first on plastics. I caught the first fish, which was a large snook. We didn't know what it was at the time, so threw it back. Bruce caught the next one, but it flipped out of the kayak, unfortunately. We also had 4 dolphins frolicking around us for about 5 minutes. They looked like they were having a great time. We spent the next day in Whyalla looking around. Whyalla has an awesome jetty, best we have ever seen. Because a lot of their tourism is based on the giant cuttlefish, the jetty is a great viewing, unfortunately, June to November. The steel production is the biggest industry for Whyalla, and the steel works and port are massive. We also visited Point Lowly and its light house.
