  • The Vikings Tale

    May 16, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We drove for hours, now we have seen
    The church of Saintly Augustine

And in the shop they try to shift
    A plethora of Royal gift

    Once more upon the motorway
To reach the sea at Pegwell Bay
    Where we will stay.
    Hooray.

  • The Hikers Tale

    May 17, 2022 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We walked for miles, saw seas 'n' skies 'n'
    Someone stole the damn horizon...

    On reflection I suppose
    Even Chaucer wrote some prose

We walked up hill and up dale (?) into Ramsgate, which seems frustratingly seedy - plenty of opportunity to eg apply a coat of paint, but they hadn't. Also, it's being turned onto an expensive retirement village, many seafront businesses demolished to allow seaview flats to be built. A pity.

Then walked back, uphill all the way (?) and drove to Margate and Broadstairs, which were much more fun!

  • The Oyster Catchers Tale

    May 18, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

And so, beset by gull and gannet
We have a day in coastal Thanet

In Whitstable where it is known
Their song's "You'll Never Whelk Alone"

And some hours later in the day
We ended up in Nice Herne Bay

  • The Castler's Tale

    May 19, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

And after rain, we travelled over
Fifteen miles to go to Dover

And then we went to pretty Deal
Before we had our evening meal

  • The Returnees' Tale

    May 20, 2022 in England ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

We came back via Ightham Mote
A country house of charming note
Of all the sites the NT run
We reckon this is number one!

And now, at home, this son of Ron's
Has turned a super shade of bronze.
Although my lovely wife does think
It's more a livid shocking pink...
