    So a super fun night. For dinner I went to this place where they serve one meal per night and when you get there, you sit down with 10 random other people and eat with them. It is meant to be very social! I ended up sitting with a bunch of locals who were SO kind. We had great conversations and they gave me such a good insider Intel😀 it was also karaoke Thursday at the hostel and these are two girls I met and I sang out hearts out to your mother know by ABBA!!!     Getting off of the Beaten Path!

    So today was a BIG bike day. I think I did roughly 50km on this rental city bike that has 3 gears and a back pedal to break 😂 but it was a 10/10 experience and I loved every second. My route took me to a southern point that was only walk/bike paths on this stretch along the coast. Absolutely gorgeous and worth every second. Very soul filling to get out of the city and be surrounded by nature :) I did have some feelings of jealousy by all the cyclists who were on road bikes whipping past me. I was imagining how great it would be if I had my gear but hey, it just means I'll be back to do it again!!Read more

    Trolls in Denmark

    So along my way back, I decided to stop by 2 out of the 6 "Forgotten Trolls". I learned that there's this architect named Thomas Dambo who builds these trolls all over the world! So I thought why not and see a couple. Their names are Hilltop Trine and Sleeping Louis :)Read more

    Made it to Laurens Fam

    Yesterday I took the train to Gothenburg and met up with my roommate's (Lauren's) fam!!! They are so kind and generous. After running by the house, we went to the cafe on the lake and had a Swedish Fika for lunch :) so yummy! And for dinner we had lasagna 😍 LOVE the home cooked meals 😋Read more

    Sooooooooo.....I did something last night. I EXTENDED MY TRIP WOOHOO!! Travelling has been so great and I've met some people that I will meet back up with later on sooo my new return date is October 6th 😁 an extra three weeks! With that being said...if you have any suggestions, I have only planned up until Italy so please don't hesitate to share!     Gothenburg Day 1

    First day in Gothenburg! Laurens family was very kind and we went to the Liseburg amusement park. It is one of the top rated parks in Europe with the tallest and fastest rides! Fun day :) experiencing everything on this trip between strolling around cities, exploring the outdoors, and going to an amusement park!

    Later in the evening we went to the family cottage. Amazing. Felt like being in Georgian Bay :)) their cabin was just 20 min outside town where you get to the middle of nowhere with no flush toilets, no dishwasher, and outdoor showers! Love it!!! So great to see their happy place :)    Read more

    Water Baby!

    So...I was in town and walking around the city and really not feeling it. Sorry if I'm offending anyone but I was like "it's just another city to walk around and see more buildings". So I thought, what better way to spend the day than to go to the coast!!! FABULOUS IDEA. Hopped on a tram and was there in 30 min. Beautiful coastline and saw so many boats. I started at a harbour called Saltholmen and then I walked to the harbour just south of that called Fiskebäck! There was this cafe right on the end of the peninsula and was it ever good. The views were amazing and it was a perfect day. I just hung out in the area for the afternoon/evening, sitting on a rock reading my book. Absolutely amazing!Read more

    Southern Archipelago Islands

    Surprise surprise...I'm back at the water!! This morning to afternoon I took ferries, island hopping! My favourite part was probably just being on the ferry but all the islands were great to see. They had residence there but no cars. I saw some really old, rustic looking electric bikes but no cars! I visited Vrångö, Donsö, and then Brännö.Read more

    Book reccomendation!

    So I've had some time on down train rides and I finished this book. Omg. It was so good. I loved it. Definitely a serious and heart wrenching read taking place during WWII but from the start it was hard to put down and the ending is perfect.Read more

    Northern Archipelagos

    So after being in the southern, I hopped over to the northern archipelago island called Hönö! I was recommended to go to this island by a lady I met at the cafe yesterday (fun fact she apparently lived in montreal for a couple months! Small world!) So I came over for the sunset! Grabbed some food and hit the hills :) and of course had some chocolate for dessert. A lovely evening and a great way to finish off in Sweden!

    PS by "hopping over" I mean getting back to the mainland and taking an hour bus ride north to hop on another ferry. Totally worth it!    Read more

    SWITZERLAND BABY!!!

    Ahhhhhhhh!!!! Yayyyyyyy!!! So happy. I'm in heaven on earth. Omg. Made it to Interlaken, Switzerland🇨🇭🙏 just got here and already exceeding expectations. Just wow. These are just pictures from the train and around my hostel😰😩😍🤩so amazing. Interlaken is a town situated in the middle of two lakes and surrounded by mountains (Kinda reminds me of Penticton!) Already contemplating extending my time in Switzerland :)) hehe

    The journey was worth the destination but let me tell you, it was a haul to get here. I was on 8 different trains, first one being at 8:03 Wednesday morning and pulling into the hostel at 10:05 Thursday morning. I arrived at one of the train stations at 0230 for a scheduled train at 0330. Once I arrived, I found out it was 2 hours delayed. So I rerouted to a train at 0430, to find out that one was 35 min delayed. It turns out the trains in Germany are living up to their standards. Frequently late! But none the less, I made it and am ready for an amazing day.    Read more

    Gimmelwald

    Wowowow!!! The view never gets old 😍 I took a bus, tram, and funicular up to Gimmelwald and then hiked to Mürren (2.2km) and then did a loop around the top :) all hike you could see cows and hear them from a mile away because of their cow bells (sound on for video)! I also had a storm chase me from behind but never caught up! Winner winner, chicken dinner! Beautiful day for a great hike :)Read more

    Interlaken to Schynige Platte

    Wowowoww!!! So I'm breaking up this hike into sections because I have too many pictures I want to share🤗I started out my morning by running by reception and asking if my hike route was recommended and the guy was amazing and told be a more scenic route up in the mountains! AND he knew someone else at the hostel who was also doing the hike. Everyone meet Mia, she's from California and a super cool gal! We hiked all day and had a blast. So back to the trek to the base of the hike, we took the train and then hopped on a tram to Schynige Platte. Absolutely stunning views the whole way up. Loved every second and worth every penny! And then onwards we went!Read more

    Schynige Platte to Faulhornweg

    So then we started our hike! The morning was gorgeous. Beautiful scenery, lovely paths, and amazing weather. We had amazing blue turquoise waters on one side and snow capped mountains and glaciers on the other. We were weaving our way around mountain peaks and constantly amazed at every corner 😍 this was the stretch of about 10km and about 1000m elevation. Honestly the elevation was very gradual so quick a lovely time❤️Read more

    Faulhornweg go First

    The back half of our hike was a little interesting as the clouds started to roll in. It was mainly downhill and once we reached the end destination, there was a cliff walk! Literally walking around the cliff and standing out on a point overlooking the valley! Amazing! And then...the thunder started, it began to rain, and it was perfect timing to take the funicular back. What an amazing hike, would recommend to anyone! If you look closely in one of our selfies, our hair is so staticey because of the thunder and lightning.     Riffelberg - Gornergratt

    Ticked off another hike in Switzerland 😍 we took the train from Interlaken to Zermatt and saw snow peaked mountains, glaciers, AND the matterhorn (unfortunately not in all of its glory because it was hiding behind the clouds). From Zermatt, we took a train up to Riffelberg and then walked down along the glacier and then back UP to the peak of Gornergratt (the hike up was a trek). The elevation gain was about 700m and the total hike up was roughly 7km. Absolutely stunning. Then at the top, we did some broke-student-budget mischief and broke a couple rules by "picnicking" inside the hotel (stealth mode kept us out of trouble😂). From the home you could see huts that people were camping out at. My dream.Read more

    Gonergrat - Zermatt

    What goes up must come down!! On our way down, we got hit with some SNOW!! And then rain 😂 so fun to have so many different climates. Anddddd we ran into black-faced sheep 😝 sooo cool. They walked right up to us and we're completely undisturbed by our presence :)

    Swiss Cheese Fondue

    After a LONG day of hiking, we treated ourselves to some traditional Swiss fondue...and wine :) Delish. Yummy. 10/10. Surprisingly, the pineapple was one of the favourites as well as bread and olives dipped in fondue. The place we went to was called Fondue Villa and Garden. Lovely servers and great last evening in Interlaken!Read more

    Boats Boats Boats!!!

    Alrighty, Derek Shepard pt 2! This morning we hopped on the Ferry from the Interlaken West station and boated down the channel in Lake Thunersee. Absolutely stunning. The water is so blue. I was sounding like a broken record. Mountains all around us.

    After getting off of the Ferry, Piet picked me up and we hit the hills - Niesen! (Piet is my mom's university roommates husband. Last saw the family about 7 years ago!). The hike was phenomenal. We had stunning views of both lakes and amazing weather. We were also truly walking up alongside the cliff face. It was jaw dropping. As we were nearing the top, I started to notice the elevation being 2600m 😰 super high up and could see everything! And then, on the way down we ran into some alpacas!!!Read more

    Drive to House

    Wow. At around 8:20 the sun was setting and the mountains were just a silhouette in the distance as we were driving from Interlaken to Biel/Bienne. Gorgeous and a sight to see.

    It is now so nice to be in a home and have a delicious home cooked meal. Roast chicken, sweet potatoes, and salad. YUM. So good. Also excited to spend time with the fam and doing some laundry after 3 days of hiking in the same socks 😎Read more

    Fribourg

    Natasha and I started out the morning in Fribourg! This is her university town where she goes to school and boy is is gorgeous! It is one of the only cities that maintained the original, old architect and it is situated on a hill. Her campus was lovely as it was separated from the city but right next to it (kinda like Dal!) and had it's separate campus.Read more

    Chocolate Factory - YUM

    After we hit up the Cailler chocolate factory! This was the first Swiss chocolate brand and according to Natasha, it is the best and only chocolate she will ever buy! -we did some taste testing and it was delicious. Canada is missing out :( Piet says in Europe they have a minimum coco content that exceeds what Canada uses.Read more
