Ventus Australis, Pia Glacier, Day 2

The morning attraction of the second full day was the Pia Glacier. Again, we were set out in the zodiacs and went to the base of this splendid glacier. First: the ice of the glaciers seems to be blue (a matter of physics). It was a really cool trip, the pictures might show. ...and it was cold. Whenever a piece of the ice was broken off, a loud bang could be heard. After disembarkment, we walked slightly uphill to see the glacier from above.
Die Attraktion am Morgen des zweiten vollen Tages war eine Zodiac-Fahrt zum Pia Gletscher, das Eis dieser Gletscher scheint wirklich blau zu sein (ist allerdings lediglich ein physikalisches Phänomen). Jedesmal wenn ein Stück abricht, gab es einen sehr lauten Knall in der Schlucht. Nach dem Ausstieg ging es dann ein kleines Stückchen hoch, so dass man den Gletscher auch von oben sehen konnte.Read more
