Ventus Australis, Cape Horn, Day 1

First outside trip was planned for Cape Horn, which was reached early Monday morning. The wind was quite gusty (65 Kn, Beaufort >12) and we were told that the tide was too high, so landing would cause a lot of problems and the safety requirements could not be met, therefore, the trip was cancelled. A huge disappointment, because we all wanted to go the most southern tip on our planet. ....but the wind was really strong out there, it was almost impossible to hold the mobile, nor the flag as you might see on the pictures. After staying for some time at this place, a smell of coffee and fresh bread crept through the ship, so it was decided to go for breakfast.
Am Montag morgen wurde dann Kap Horn erreicht, allerdings waren die Wetterbedingungen derart, dass der Wind zu stark (65 kn, Windstärke >12, orkanartig) und die Brandung zu stark waren, um ein Landen mit den Zodiacs auf der Insel sicher zu gewährleisten. Die Enttäuchung war bei vielen natürlich sehr groß, dann auf dem südlichsten Zipfel unseres Planeten zu stehen, war für viele eines der highlights. Der Wind war so stark, dass man das Handy kaum halten konnte, um gute Bilder zu machen. Die Bilder geben dieses nur ansatzweise wider.
