Quick 4.5 hour flight to the land of “Fire and Ice”

Starting with the Fire but thankfully someone found a white noise device

    Next stop Reykjavik!

  • Tectonic Meet-Up

    9. juli 2022, Island ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Where North America and Europe merge, we’ve finally reached new land! First by car, then on foot traversing the Bridge Between Continents.

The wind felt as if we brought a New Orleans Hurricane with us (not the drink), but we were not getting blown around today!Læs mere

  • The 1st Geothermal Spring

    9. juli 2022, Island ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

The steam of boiling water billowing from between the rocks at Gunnuhver was no match for the hissing wind that took over the sound. Thankfully we weren’t close enough to feel the heat, but still take in the vibrant red colorLæs mere

  • The Valahnúkamöl Cliffs

    9. juli 2022, Island ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Despite the conditions and unpaved road, we remain unphased! Impressive rocks jutting out that are rumored to be Trolls that turned to stone after being caught in the sun, though we couldn’t confirm

  • The Seltún Geothermal Area

    9. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

Warm sulfur rich water (trust us there was no denying the smell) has lead to just amazing geography and colors. Windy as can be that was just Iceland’s plan this morning.

The last stop of our Southern Peninsula Drive was one of the highlightsLæs mere

  • Our Day 1+2 Abode

    9. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

After a stop for lunch and scenic drive through the Icelandic country side, the sky tried to clear the rain as we arrived at Hótel Varmaland just in time for happy hour.

  • Dinner and Swimming to Wine* Down

Our 3rd hot spring of the days brings us to Krauma, a spa fed by Deildartunguhver, the fastest hot spring in Europe inside a beautiful mountain valley. This one we will be indulging in post meal.

Until then… amazing company in a surreal surrounding. With apps so good it’s hard to choose which to eat

  • Rauðamelsölkelda Spring

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

2 km dirt road past the cliffs we found our first, and only, private attraction of the day with the only other tourist being a family of sheep. The hike through a moss covered lava field and rolling farm led us to a great 1st waterfall and a natural mineral spring bubbling out of the earth. A great hydration station to begin the trek around Snæfellsnes peninsulaLæs mere

  • Kirkjufellsfoss

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Out of nowhere arose this pointy peak opposite a majestic waterfall. Despite the crowded parking area and cloudy skies, we were still able to get amazing photos

  • Saxhóll Crater

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Our first stop within Snæfellsjökull National Park was a crater left from a volcanic eruption and subsequent lava fields. And steep yet short hike up for a quick view.

  • Vatnshellir Cave

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

The first tour of the trip was awesome, bringing us some 35+ meters below the surface into a lava cave formed from an eruption 8000 years ago. Home to a half troll/half human, the colors and unique formations were a great underground experience. Serenity in the complete darkness was unmatched.Læs mere

  • Snaefellsjokull Vistor Center

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

While the park is surrounding the volcano/glacier that is the entrance to Jules Verne’s center of the earth, the overcast rainy skies limited all such views. But along the coast were the start of some amazing cliff and rock finds that despite being commonplace are all equally stunning. So stunning that we saw a couple who chose to get married there, TODAY!Læs mere

  • Arnarstapi Coast

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

A short drive later and even more awe inspiring rock formations, including 2 unsuspecting land bridges that we crossed absentmindedly not realizing the sheer magnitude and intensity. Thankfully this was discovered by Allie after her photo was takenLæs mere

  • Bjarnarfoss Falls

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

After losing track of waterfalls this was the last one visited today just before the rain came in, even though it still looked as if it was coming out of the clouds

  • Ytri Tunga

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

The final stop was a seal beach but it must have been meal time as only handful were present. The beach was the most “normal” we’ve seen yet

  • Dinner is Served

    10. juli 2022, Island ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Oh the things you’ll find by zooming in a Google Maps… Englendingavík is a coastal restaurant in the city of Borgarnes known for their 4 dish fish buffet. Every item was delicious and we rolled out quite full for a walk along the water that was cut short after we had just about enough rain for one day.Læs mere
