465 kms - Banka Banka Station is a location 100 kilometres north of Tennant Creek along the Stuart Highway. The historic cattle station was the first operational pastoral lease in this region, and a supply camp during World War II, providing meat, eggs, fruits and vegetables. It was occupied and run by the Ward family and is still the site of a mudbrick homestead, this was our stop for tonight. With no phone service at all it was the perfect opportunity to sit by the fire with the other campers and listen to the local entertainment.Read more

610 kms - Who knew so much could change in 24 hours if having no phone service. We heard on our way to Alice Springs for the night there had been positive COVID cases in the NT and Darwin, Litchfield and Palmerston were in a snap lock down and SA had closed their borders to NT! A lot of phone calls made today to see how this was to impact us.Read more

1058 kms - Wow! What a day! We left early heading for the SA border hoping to get let across to head home. We got Marla and we were stopped by SA Border Police. We were granted a ‘pass through’ allowing us 72 hours to pass through SA. With this pass also came stipulations: we can not stay or stop for more than 1 hr in the towns of Coober Pedy (so we had to cancel our booking at the underground cave hotel), Ceduna or Port Augusta, we can not be around other people and have to keep to ourselves (so no staying at Mum and Dads), only 1
of us can enter a shop for essential items only, we have to wear face masks in public and the worst one yet, we have to have a COVID swab within the first 24 hrs, again at day 5 and again at day 13! We are also going to have to confirm with VIC Pol if we have to self isolate for 14 days once getting home! Safe to say it has been a long, stressful, emotional and draining day.... not the end to an amazing holiday we were hoping for... so we got a room at Spuds Roadhouse in Pimba and are looking forward to a hot shower and good nights sleep.Read more

559 kms - So after another morning the phone to state government COVID information lines we were finally told that as we left the ‘red zone’ of Darwin 1 week before it was declared a ‘red zone’ we were able to re enter Victoria on a green permit meaning we do not have to isolate when we return. We left Pimba, had a coffee in front of the ranges before we had to stop at Port Augusta for COVID swab on the way through. We were also told that we had permission to stay with family when passing through SA, so tonight we are at Mum and Dads! Big catch up, photo sharing, feed of ‘Tasty Wok’ noodles and rice and a good nights sleeps before the last stretch tomorrow.Read more

480 kms - So after 22 days, 21 nights, 7773 kms in total, 3 states, 12 different caravan parks therefore 12 set up / pack ups, 1 hotel and a COVID outbreak we are finally home! The car and camper looking lot more dirty than when we left!
Was a rushed end to the trip with us missing out on staying in the Underground Cave Motel and having to cut the trip short by 3 days but the rest of it was amazing! We had the best time seeing some of the most beautiful country side. The outback really is a different world, and one we want to explore more :)Read more
