Honeymoon tandem Goat and Ham's adventure
Sardinia!!!
1 september 2016, Italien ☀️ 28 °C
We ve made to our second country after an overnight ferry from Toulon to Porto Torres. A quick 40 km and we have found ourselves in Alghero. We plan to leave Sardinia via Cagliari in the south and have booked a ferry for monday evening. A long day to Oristano tomorrow. We upgraded our accommodation as you can see!!Läs mer

So.....Sardinia is pretty hilly
2 september 2016, Italien ☀️ 27 °C
Having thought we d been very clever to avoid the mountains in Corsica and opted for Sardinia we've realised there are some serious hills in Sardinia. Our long day to Oristano will be two days now. We had the best ride and the most tiring so far today. Completely worth it though. Found a little gem of a campsite aswell!!Läs mer

Race for the ferry!
3 september 2016, Italien ☁️ 17 °C
5 am start this morning was to save us from the worst of the heat, but with a lot more hills we arrived in Oristano a little after midday. The map appears to show 120 km of relatively flat terrain to reach our ferry. Lets hope its right or our idea to save nine euros for a non transferable ferry ticket may backfire!Läs mer

Inland sardinia

A much flatter ride today which wasnt so intersting but we made good progress. Hopefully en route to catch our ferry now. Insanely hot by midday nearly slid off the bike a few times!!(hammy post!)

Cagliari
5 september 2016, Italien ⛅ 29 °C
We had our first experience cycling through an Italian city today which was mental. We got to see how motorway cycling feels and pulled a great U-turn on the dual carriageway out the bag. This resulted in Rosie's swift but amicable demotion from map reader. Feeling a bit apprehensive about Naples now...!

Eventually made it in one piece and parked up by a lovely beach where we wolfed down a huge caprese salad and sat on the beach until our ferry arrived.

The ferry was another adventure altogether. Cats, dogs, hundreds of humans and one tandem bike packed like sardines into a tin can. However olly managed to find a little secret haven in the form of an unoccupied 'penthouse' area of deck where we watched the sun set then snuggled up and slept under the stars.Läs mer

Napoli and the Solfatara volcano
6 september 2016, Italien ⛅ 24 °C
After a genuinely excellent night's sleep aboard the grottiest ferry, we made it through Naples relatively easily. Possibly because Rosie was allowed to concentrate on the views rather than the map! (This is obviously not true but it makes olly feel very manly so we'll go with it).

A nice easy cycle along the coast from Naples and up to Solfatara volcano where we camped within the crater. It's dormant but still emits sulfurous gasses and in parts, the ground is literally bubbling.
Other than the pretty overwhelming aroma of rotting eggs, it was a pretty cool place to camp! For one night...Läs mer

Sperlonga and Terracina
8 september 2016, Italien ☀️ 26 °C
Such a lovely coastal ride today, through Sperlonga (where mum used to hang out in her youth) and on to Terracina. Tried to reinact a photo on the beach from the 60's but couldnt find an upturned boat to casually lean against so ended up looking like a bit of a weirdo posing in my lycra instead!

The coastal road took us through some cool tunnels (i got in trouble for photographing the one below as it was uphill and i therefore wasnt putting my 'all' into it...!) which were quite fun until one took us by suprise as we were plunged into total darkness just as a convoy of lorries came thundering past us. Lorry horns in tunnels are REALLY LOUD!Läs mer

The partially excavated original port of Rome with buildings dating back to 1st century AD. Silting over the years has moved the coastline back hence it's up the river a few km's. Really impressive and hardly anyone there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves!Läs mer
