Swing Bridge at Sale

The historic swing bridge is located on the LaTrobe River about 5 kilometres south of Sale. The bridge has been restored and is a significant heritage listed structure.

The bridge allowed the many steamers to pass and provided a vehicular crossing of the river. It was designed by John Grainger and built by the Victorian government in 1883

The bridge was eventually permanently set in closed position and used for vehicle traffic until the new bridge was opened in 2002.

In 2003 major restoration was commenced. These repairs were completed in 2006 at a cost of around 1 million. The bridge is opened every Saturday and Sunday.Read more
