    Burdekin Falls Dam

    September 8, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The Burdekin Falls Dam was built in 1984. A whole town was built for the workers and then after the project was finished in 1987 it was all taken away. There are still a lot of concrete slabs and the caravan park left.

The dam holds back an impressive body of water when full at capacity. It is said that it is about 4 Sydney Harbours. The water from here gravity flows down the Burdekin river to a series of locks and weirs to be used for irrigation. When Toemwnsville runs low on water from its regular supplies the shortfall is pumped from here.
