    The old jetty was completed in 1866. Built to make unloading of supplies less dangerous and more efficient for the day. Ships anchored well off the shore and transferred their load to and from drays taken as far out as possible at low tide.

    The jetty had a rail line out so freight could be loaded between ship and wagons. This would have been a lot easier and quite a bit safer.
