  • Cowra, NSW

    23 aprile 2019, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

A plaque on the old historical building says that the line was reopened this century. Wednesday 19th April actually. Thing is though it looks like a long time since the line has been used. A bit further out there is a huge square post bolted over the rails. The line past the crossing is very overgrown with grass and weeds. A sign on the building looks like the Cowra Antique. Auto club are in residence.Leggi altro

  • Wang power station

    24 aprile 2019, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Wallerawang is in the midst of quite a few coal mines. Some are still producing coal but rather than a conveyor ride to the power station, it makes its way to a coal loading fa ility and heads off to local markets

Camping in this area was alongside the lake, Lake Wallace, purpose built for cooling water for the power station. Water comes from nearby to fill the lake as needed.

Today the only use made of the lake is recreational. Campers are allowed to spend two days here enjoying the beautiful surrounds.

Birds are abundant and vary vastly from season to season. Ducks though are here all the year round.

  • Bob's Shed

    7 maggio 2019, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

To describe the contents hidden in Bob's Shed would take an entire book. He has built a vintage shop complete with unopened foods from mid last century. This alone is interesting but there is more, much more. A bar recreation with shelves of beer bottles and cans, barber shop railway station and more.

Bob is a bit of a Brock fan and that shows in the next two sheds. Torana cars in full race trim and his prized Brock Commodore. Metres of Brock memorabilia. A few old classic cars, some classic motorbikes, workshops and then the Brock rooms as well. Two large rooms filled with all things Brock.

The layout and attention to detail has to be seen to be believed. This wonderful stop has a very modest $6 entry fee and Bob himself will usually give you a guided tour.

  • Pilliga Wetlands

    8 maggio 2019, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Pilliga is a small town well beyond its halcyon time of hustle and bustle. A few people call this home and there is a Cafe and community clinic. Any needs beyond the basics as well as fuel would require a trip to Narrabri.

Two kilometres out of town is the old artesian bore with a camping area alongside. Visitors can camp here and enjoy the artesian baths at a comfortable 37 degrees. Said to have wonderful therapeutic value this is a nice relaxing experience.

The water flows from the baths from the artesian bore then exits to the nearby wetlands. This always has some water but after rain is quite extensive.

Many birds can ba seen here foraging for food in the lagoons and along the edges.

  • Collarenerbri

    10 maggio 2019, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Collarenebri is another town that's has declined over the recent years. The Barwon River flows through the town a d is backed up by a weir. At the moment the river is very low due to upstream water usage for irrigation. Dry years also don't help.

This town is a base for the many farms Iin the are. Today there is one supermarket, a butcher, bowls club, service station., Cafe and hotel as well as a few other service businesses.

  • End of trip

    23 maggio 2019, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

The Skipworth Trip ended on 23 May. After travelling via Tenterfield, Casino, Brisbane, Urangan and up the cost we were home to prep for out next "short" trip.

From Casino had taken about another week visiting friends and Family. We did not bother with photos for the travel blog as we have travelled that part many times.

We always get asked what our favourite part of the trip was. This is such a hard question since over a couple of months there are so many moments.

Scariest. The monster downpour of rail that near flattened out camper tent at Mount Hope. Also the many times watching a granddaughter climb a terr hanging out over a 29 foot bank.

Touching. Finishing the time at Skipworth when the girls painted rocks. Everyone had a different image.

Prettiest. There were a few. Usually there was water and often birds.

Strangest. The Gold nugget throwing at Jameison. Not real nuggets

Tastiest. Beechworth Bakery, honey tasting and the Berry farm.. Also camp oven cooking. Damper. Vegetable stews.

Narure moments. King parrots landing on us to take an almond. A visiting wallaby and her baby visiting our camp and coming right up for a pat. Blue wrens flitting around our camp..

Nervous. Driving around the side of a hill with a 200m drop straight down.

Annoying. The kookaburra who stole my lunch and shared it with his mates. Some of the impatient drivers.
