We rode the metro from the airport to our hotel. When we arrived at our station we found the most amazing old lift!

We arrived at the Holiday Inn, Crystal City. It’s a really nice hotel room with a massive super king bed. Good facilities and quiet.
That Empty Nest LifeRoom service every day, an ice machine on every floor and a guest laundry. Really a very nice hotel

Visited a couple of US shops. Target was a great shop, expensive but well stocked with lots of goods. The Dollar Tree was disappointing. Empty shelves some of which were dirty and or rusty. We couldn’t really understand the hype about that one?Read more

Walked passed 2 sides of the pentagon! Huge is not the word!
That Empty Nest LifeBy the time today was over we had walked all 5 sides. We tried to see the memorial garden but there was too much construction going on so we could not get in.

Around the corner from Matt’s old house we found this burnt out shell. The upper floors completely destroyed with just the lower stone walls and the boiler left as evidence.

We finally got to “almost” see the White House!
Due to the inauguration there was a lot of fencing and a massive stage and all of the entrances were blocked off but we tried to catch a glimpse!

We had an amazing tour of the Capitol building. The US political system has an incredible history and the tour was very informative. We enjoyed the architecture and the art on display. The best bit was sitting in the House and the Senate whilst both were in session.Read more

We saw the founding documents, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights, which were very interesting. Oddly there is also a Magna Carta on Display.
