Leknes and the Lofoten Islands archipelago is made up of about 80 islands, many connected by bridges and tunnels, making it easy to travel throughout the region.

Fishing remains a way of life here, especially the production of stockfish. Beginning in February, cod is hung outdoors for four months in the cool, dry air, and about 3,000 tons are exported each year, with Italy being the largest customer.

At 68 degrees north, above the Arctic Circle and on the same latitude as parts of Alaska and Siberia, the climate is mild thanks to the Gulf Stream. During summer, the midnight sun shines for nearly two months, providing endless daylight to enjoy Lofoten's stunning mountains, fishing villages, and coastal scenery.
