Day #143 Kazakhstan

Started with a walk around Almaty. It's very green and clean; a really nice city. We visited the very colourful Cathedral of Ascension in Panfilov park and saw the war memorial. We then walked around the Green Bazar and went to Panfilov street. It has several memorials, like the one to two Kazak women in the soviet army during World War 2. One of them was a sniper and killed over 60 Nazis. We went up the Koktobe cable car for some views over the city.

We then picked up the hire car and Shaun drove up into the mountains to Lake Issyk/Esik. It was quite peaceful with not a lot of tourists around.

Stayed in a family-run guest house - which was a tent and cooking 'facilities' (axe, tree and BBQ). It did have its own sauna though.Read more
