Martin & I signed up for the annual Glasgow to Edinburgh bike ride. This year was the 20th anniversary of it starting. Only 425 people lined up to start in 1999.
Booked transport from Edinburgh to the starting point at Glasgow Green. Arrived in Edinburgh about 5.30 am. The bikes were loaded on the courier's lorry and we got on the coach. Arrived in Glasgow at 6.50 am.
Set off on our ride at 7.30 am.
First stop was at the 10 mile point. Drumpellier Country Park. Took us just over an hour to get there. It was supposed to one breakfast bar per rider. Martin lifted three.
As we entered into the Falkirk District, we did think about just heading home but decided to carry on. The next rest stop was Slamannan. Arrived there around 10.40 am. Mhairi & Heather were there to meet us. Martin went to look for rations but came back empty handed this time.
Headed off for the next section and lunch stop which included two big hills. I walked up both. Martin cycled them. Two years ago there was an incident with tacks on the road near Linlithgow bridge. Quite a few riders were caught. Fortunately there were no reports of any this time. I felt there were more marshals along the route.
Arrived in Linlithgow just before 1 pm. Had a pie and a sandwich. Picked up an extra sandwich for Martin. He always claims he doesn't get fed at home.
The last ten miles were after lunch. Passing through Winchburgh & Philpstoun and onto Kirkliston. We went entered into Ingleston through the same entrance we use for the Royal Highland show car park. As Martin & I approached the finishing line Mhairi & Heather were waiting for us. Further down Norma & the girls were too.
I had chicken curry & a glass of red wine for dinner before having an early night.
