Managed to finish work early today. Norma and the girls took me to the airport.
I had checked in online the night before. Bag drop checked my details and took my bag. Security wasn't busy and passed through without any problems. Found a Wetherspoons as I hadn't any dinner. Ordered a chicken tikka masala and a pint of Bud Light. The flight left on time and we arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

Terminal 5 Heathrow

Was up at 5.15 am this morning. Lovely clear day. Breakfast opened at 6am. There was unlimited drinks refills but I didn't have time for more than 1 coffee. Caught the 6.21 am shuttle bus back to the airport. Checked in fairly quickly. Was surprised there weren't bigger queues.
My rucksack got pulled at security. The lady emptied it. She ended up checking my inhaler and camera. Repacked my bag and headed for the transit train underground. The flight is out at the B gates in a different building. I knew Heathrow was huge, just never been in it before.Read more

Flight Over

Flew in a Boeing 777 - 200. A little disappointed it wasn't a 747. The in-flight meal was lovely. Tandoori chicken with rice. The air steward offered me wine with my meal, I couldn't as I was driving later. Watched some movies:

Hardly slept during the flight. We arrived in Seattle 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Wasn't too hot on arrival. Cleared security quite quickly and got my case. Met Candice in the concourse. One of the screens had said Edinburgh baggage was coming out on carousel 1. Caught the shuttle bus out to the car rental place.Read more

Red Lion Inn & Suites

Took a wrong turning just after leaving the car rental place. I was able to do a U turn further up. The car is not fitted with GPS, I ended up using Google maps. I have a Garmin GPS at home I could have used but it was going to cost £60 to download the American map. Came off I 5 and was at the hotel. It has a swimming pool and Jacuzzi which I might use later in the week. The hotel is next to a Walmart too. Went there for chips & juice.Read more

The forecast was for rain today. Woke up this morning and it was rainy outside. Candice asked if I wanted to go to church today. I wanted to drive there to get more practise. Another slight navigational hiccup enroute but arrived there for 10am. I thought I had to be there for 10 but the service started at 10.30 am, I arrived slightly early for a change.Read more

Jimmy Mac's Roadhouse

We went to a Texas style roadhouse restaurant called Jimmy Mac's for dinner. I was there last time I was over.
There is a big self service barrel of peanuts at the door. The peanuts shells are dumped on the floor and crunch as you step on them.

Left Federal Way around 9 am to drive down to Oregon. Joined I 5 and stayed on it for the next 3 hours. Stuck to the speed limits. I was thrilled that Google said "Welcome To Oregon" after I had crossed the state line. Arrived at my friend's around 12.30pm.
Check in was after 3pm. When I arrived the guy at reception thought he recognised me from somewhere. Dropped the car off and headed over to Silverton to meet the rest of the family.Read more

Lincoln City beach

We drove out to Lincoln City beach, taking around an hour to get there
When we arrived it was dull and rainy. There was a little patch of blue sky which got bigger and bigger.
Walked along the beach. Massive breakers were coming in. I hadn't touched the Pacific ocean before. It got my shoe before I could touch the water.Read more

J's Fish n Chips

We headed into town for lunch after the first place we found was closed. There was a collection of tourist / gift shops. Just across from it was J's fish and chips.
Walked around the shops before getting lunch. The restaurant was busy which is usually a good sign. We opted for take away. The initial plan was to sit outside on the benches. I ordered a 4 piece combo with curly fries. I got cod, halibut and two shrimp. Even got tartar sauce too.
We ended up driving down a bit and parking up facing onto the beach. Fish and chips beside the sea is one of my favourite things to do.Read more

Oregon Garden, Silverton

I drove over to Felicia's house. Got pictures with her and her family before the boys went to school. Today was picture day for them.
We drove over to pick up Cora & her baby in Silverton before going over to the Gardens. It was a lovely warm day.
We followed the main paths around the gardens. There is a tram but it only runs on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. Passed a pavilion in the grounds where Cora had her high school prom.
Headed back to the cafe for lunch which was a roast beef croissant sandwich.Read more

Candice picked me up after breakfast and we headed out to Prosser. It was light rain at first. Got held up by a couple of accidents while we were crossing the mountains.
Once on the other side, the sun came out and it warmed up to 79 °F. Lovely drive out to Prosser.

We passed this on the way out to Prosser. It was a better idea to stop on the return journey.
The store had a wide range of things
Fresh fruit, wines and antiques.
I found pineapple cider. Had seen it in Oregon gardens but couldn't get it as I was driving later.
Little disappointed in it as it was mixed with Apples. Bought a pepper soda too. Taking it home for the family to tryRead more

We managed to get parked right next to the Space Needle. The fountains outside were lovely.
Took a while to get up to the top because of the queues. It was undergoing building work last time I was here. The changes were lovely. Big glass panels all around the viewing floor.
There was a revolving glass floor on the level below. It was strange walking on the glass. Takes an hour for a full circuit around.Read more

Flying home

I had allowed time for traffic congestion & delays dropping the car off. I ended up in the airport 2 hours before check in opened. Found a little corner to sit & watched the world go by.
Had to empty my rucksack while going through security so they could check my camera.
I hadn't looked for duty free shopping. Found one next to the gate. Bought a travel exclusive Isle Of Jura. It was dark as we took off from Seattle
I watched the new Aladdin movie. It was good but not quite the same without Robin Williams.
Had a chicken casserole for dinner. Not sure how long I slept. When i woke up it was an hour & a half to London.
Once we landed baggage reclaim & customs went smoothly
Went upstairs to departures and started the process for the Edinburgh flight. At security I lost my 500ml bottle of diet coke as I had forgotten about it.
Read a little while after take off then went to sleep. Woke up with 10 minutes to go for Edinburgh.Read more
