Our holiday in Stilbaai ~ Feb

Today was a verrry loooong day for us. It was also exceptionally hot 🔥. We left Colesberg at 8am and set off for Stilbaai.
Along the way I was really sad to see how dry the Northern Cape is. We stopped in de Rust at a lovely little coffee shop. Read more

    Yesterday was a long, 🔥 hot day! We travelled from Colesberg and enjoyed a very safe trip. We took the looong way round as it was a trip down memory lane through Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn! We stopped in de Rust for a while. Had the most tasty toasted sarmie and something cold to drink. We arrived in Stilbaai at 17:15. Happy days, let the fun begin!Read more

    Woke up later than usual this morning. Had a leisurely start to the day. Went and did a bit of shopping and then went and had breakfast at the most wonderful place! Coffee and Cream! We then tootled off to the harbour and then we found a beautiful beach ⛱️. Water is surprisingly warm but sadly full of bluebottles!! Alan was a casualty from a nasty sting but he's all good now.Read more

    Early this morning we went to Freedom Bread Cafe to surprise an ex-pupil from 1997! What a lovely experience! So glad to meet her husband and children and to catch up on her family news. Taught her brother as well.
    Came back to the house and did some washing and read for a while.
    After lunch we took a drive to Groot Jongensfontein to have a look around. Very pretty but not sure if I could live there. Lovely homes - obviously lots of holiday homes. Went to the tidal pool! Alan practiced his "dassie" moves and clambered over the rocks to watch the tide coming in! I had some time to myself and just enjoyed the beauty around me!

    Today was a peaceful one. Woke up to pouring rain and later on a hectic storm. After a leisurely breakfast and when the rain stopped we ventured out to do some exploring.
    We wanted to go and do some olive tasting but we found it to be closed until next Tuesday.
    Next mission was to try and find a place to have a bite to eat. Off we tootled past Botterkloof and find the places Alan had seen on his favourite place .... aka ... Google Maps! The first place was a very run down shop and the second place was deserted!!! Huge disappointment for both of us. We turned around and tootled off back the way we had come. Turned into Inverroche to have a meal. Bummer number 3 for the day! The restaurant is being revamped! We were directed to a place on the same property and hey presto we found a place to eat!!! We both ordered pizza and they were delicious. Pricey but Yummy.    Read more

    And so we come to the end of another day!
    Hilda and Dries drove up from Kleinmond to join us for the day to celebrate Hilda's birthday! Took a drive to the harbour and watched a few boats come to shore.
    We then tootled off to Inverroche for a gin tasting. We spent a couple of hours tasting the gins and ended up doing the liqueur tasting as well!!
    From there we took a scenic drive back to Stilbaai. Most interesting.
    We ended the day with a lovely dinner at The Seekombuis.

    Today was a wonderful day! A friend whom I have not seen since she and her husband moved out of Pretoria drove down from Montagu to visit me! We had a wonderful visit!
    Alan and I took a drive to the tidal pool in Jongensfontein and he had a swim while I sat and watched the mist rolling in over the sea! The waves were amazing and it was wonderful to sit and enjoy the splendor of God's creation!Read more

    Today was explore Stilbaai day!! We went down to the beach and watched the tide coming in and then we went exploring. We drove through a nature reserve and passed the town's sewerage works - very clean and neat.
    We then proceeded along a brick road to a working olive 🫒 farm. Here we found a quaint restaurant at the top of the hill. It overlooks the river and has a beautiful view of the gorgeous houses on the river bank. We shared a meze platter. Alan had a beer and I had a glass of wine. For something cold we shared a delicious dessert. The weather is building up for a storm so we decided to go home and just relax!!

    After a slow day yesterday we tootled off to George this morning.
    I encouraged Alan to go and visit his sister and brother-in-law. While he visited them I wandered around the mall and had a delicious toasted sandwich and a cappuccino. He had a good visit.
    We then set off for Hartenbos! We wanted to check out the house that our neighbours have there. We duly arrived and I decided to pop in to N're's mom and dad who are across the road! What a wonderful surprise for them. They were extremely happy to see us! We had a super visit.
    We're now safely back in Stilbaai. It was a great day!    Read more

    Spent a quiet, leisurely morning at the house.
    We eventually got going and went to LILLIPUT for a bite to eat! Burgers were very tasty!
    After lunch we drove to Preekstoel beach and Alan took a walk to the beach to see the Preekstoel - a huge outcrop of rock in the water.
    As it was nearing high tide we drove to the harbour and watched the tide coming in! BLISS!    Read more

    Today's the last day of our time in Stilbaai! Had a slow start to the day. Took a leisurely drive to Jongensfontein and Alan had his last dip in the sea. 🌊
    The wind was relentless and it was difficult to even get out of the car.
    Went back to the house and relaxed before going to The Seekombuis for a late lunch/early dinner. Sat and watched the kite surfers 🏄‍♂️ 🌊 tackling the wind while we enjoyed our meal!

    Today was a verrry loooong day but it was a good one.
    We left Stilbaai and popped in to collect a few things for our neighbours back home. Spent an hour with the family and then hit the road for Colesberg. Thankfully the road was quiet and we had a good trip. We arrived in Colesberg just before 5pm. Checked into our accommodation for the night and cleaned up and set off up the road to Inni Kraal - a lovely, family run restaurant. Alan and I both had lamb chops with mash and vegetables. Wow! Wow! Wow!! What a delicious meal we had. A most fitting way to end off our wonderful holiday!
    Tomorrow we are on our final leg home.

    And so we've come to the end of our holiday!! As the saying goes - all good things must come to an end.
    As we were very close to the Gariep Dam we detoured off the N1 and drove to the dam wall! What an exquisite feast for the eyes!!! The dam is full and the sluice gates were all open!
    We then got back on the N1. The road was busy in both directions and thankfully we made good progress. Just a few stops along the way to help this ol' gal out!! 'P' stops are most necessary!!
    We arrived home safely and we are thankful for the opportunity to have had an amazing holiday!!!
