    Jewel Cave

    We've been on a good number of cave tours now, pretty much a standard on every holiday we've been on at this point. But to my surprise, all of them have had a uniqueness one way or another. This one seemed as pristine as a tour cave can get without any signs of historic human tampering because from the moment it was "discovered" in the '50s, it has had the purpose of being for tourism.

    It has the largest stalactite in Australia despite it being one of the youngest caves at 1 million years old. They even found a Tasmanian Tiger skeleton and footprint in the mud when they were first exploring it.    En savoir plus

    Hamelin Bay

    Where the stingrays come up almost to the beach, we were able to watch a couple swimming past in the short time that we were there. I think this was our third attempt to find stingrays, a callback to our last holiday with Juanes, where we had an up-close feeding experience with them.En savoir plus

    Leeuwin Estate

    A little bit luxe, why not, when in the Margaret River region. A beautiful estate, the oldest vineyard in the region, and a really delicious, albeit expensive, lunch. We were joined by a kookaburra friend beside us and looked over the helicopter that arrived at the same time as us. It was very nice and relaxing, just what we needed.En savoir plus

    Busselton Jetty

    We came, we saw, and we left. Unfortunately, this does not seem like the type of place you can arrive at on a Sunday afternoon unprepared. The train was sold out, and there was no chance of us walking the 1.8-kilometer jetty to get to the other end without being able to go into the underwater observatory. This is something we will have to come back to do one day, perhaps.En savoir plus

    Rottnest Island

    Anyone who has heard about Rottnest will know just how stunning the beaches and island are. We were lucky enough to have almost perfect weather for the day, which made the aqua blue water glow. We had a great morning swimming over at Salmon Bay. In the afternoon, the wind did start to pick up, but we wanted to fit in another attempt to snorkel, so we went out to Little Salmon Bay this time, and the waves had definitely started to get choppy.

    We did not have luck with our e-bikes, though, with one only having one gear that seemed to work and another where the motor seemed to be connected backward and made the bike stop instead of help.

    The highlight of the day was the quokka, especially the little one who tried to use the shoulder strap of Alex's bag as a swing. We ended the day with a few cocktails while waiting for the ferry, with the quokkas surrounding us as we were sitting there. Exceptionally adorable.    En savoir plus

    Omeo Wreck

    The intention was to have a snorkel here, but lying in bed seemed more important today after the exhausting Rottnest day yesterday. This is a wreck of a ship that is basically shallow enough to walk to, so it's perfect for beginners like us. But this was just a view from the shore this time.En savoir plus

    Jetski

    Trauma alert. Well, not for me, as you can see, since there is no photo of me. I realized 5 minutes into trying to jetski that it was far too unnatural to speed up in order to control the craft. At the start of the tour, he said it was going to be high speed, and I wasn't going high speed, so I pulled out early. Alex and Juanes kept going though, and minutes after I left (while the tour guide wasn't even there), they fell into the shark-infested water twice. They, however, managed to do the entire trip, in fear and hanging on for their lives at like 70km/h. They did get to see sea lions in the water, so that was a plus.

    Meanwhile, I was having my own adventure back at the shore. The older man that was picking me and the jetski up had left his keys and phone on the back tray of the Ute before driving off. Randomly in the trip, I hear this almighty array of swear words as he swings it all around and heads back so we can look for them on the way. Then, after we thankfully found them, having to stand there awkwardly and make small talk with him and another random untooth local that showed up for a chat while waiting for his friend to come help him with his home-brew. Honestly, I don't know which of us had a more traumatic experience.    En savoir plus

    Yanchep Koala Boardwalk

    Alex said this was our best chance to see a Koala in the wild, and yes technically they were surrounded by the wild sure... But the koalas were happily in enclosures. But look at this cutie that we were so lucky to have one of the rangers come over and offer to take a close up of her photo while we were there.En savoir plus

    Sunset Reflection

    It wasn't our last day, but this was a place where we stopped and watched the sun set over the water, a rare treat as an East Coaster. We talked about the adventures and memories of this truly epic adventure: over thirteen thousand kilometers in driving alone.     Bell Tower

    The ANZAC tour of the bell tower included being able to ring the bells ourselves. It was actually more emotional than I was expecting, for me anyway, but I'm a big crybaby at the best of times, but I wasn't expecting it here. The sound and vibrations of the big ANZAC bell were quite eerie and moving as we stood and watched. Then going up to the top to hear the bells chime the National Anthem also felt special.En savoir plus

    Perth Mint

    This was a great tour that covered the origin of the mint and mining in WA. It included the 1-tonne, 99.99% pure gold coin and a demonstration of making a pure gold bar. As part of the ANZAC bell tour, we also received coins that could be engraved with our names.En savoir plus

    The Big Rig

    The Ford Everest Trend got us through 13,000 kilometers without an issue, starting every new trip of the day with the power songs "The Nights" by Avicii and "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root. On our long journeys, we listened to the audiobook of "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir.En savoir plus
