Great Ocean Drive

Esperance Stonehenge

Only something you could believe by being there. A complete, to-scale Stonehenge, perfectly aligned with the solstice, here in Esperance. Even with modern construction methods, this required a lot of Czytaj więcej
Twilight Beach

Barrens Beach

We left Esperance this morning and began heading west again. It was nice to spend a few days in the same place.

Cave Point Lookout and West Beach

A short walk up to see Cave Point, aptly named. Part of the walk is to look out at West Beach nearby, which looked beautiful and dramatic. The flora here really fascinated Alex and me too, definitely Czytaj więcej
Bremer Bay Lookout and Windmill

It's very uncommon in our travels to be able to go up and touch a windmill power generator, so that was a surprise to be so close. Then we walked up to the metal lookout tower to see across the Bremer Czytaj więcej

Pilot Whales

The first animal spotted during our Orca tour was a pod of sleepy pilot whales. Apparently similar in a lot of ways to orcas, but smaller and darker. A nice early find on the way out to the Czytaj więcej
Striped Dolphins

Four hours of absolutely nothing, then out of nowhere a big pod of very fast-moving striped dolphins rushed away from something.
Orcas

Shortly after the dolphins, we saw what they were running from, finally found the orcas... But they were in stealth mode and not really wanting to be found. "Slinky" was the word being used in the Czytaj więcej
Sperm Whale

And this appears to have been what the orcas were stalking. They knew this big sperm whale was in the area and were following its journey. There isn't much chance that the orcas were going to attack Czytaj więcej
Australian Sea Lion

Lastly, while heading back into dock, we spotted Glass Island to see the sea lions sunbathing on the rock, including a little pup.
Sharp Point

Albany Historic Whaling Station

Wow, what an emotional kind of place, more so knowing it was operating up until the end of 1978. The only complete Whaling Station in the world, and it preserved a whaling ship. After seeing such big, Czytaj więcej
Misery Beach

A small beach, but was pretty enough to stop for a swim. Also named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world despite it's size. But it didn't always look that pretty, hence the name. With this Czytaj więcej
Salmon Holes

It's interesting that the salmon come here for part of the year to hide from the big fish, using the limestone as a home from which to go out and hunt in the deeper waters. It's where salmon and Czytaj więcej

Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk

Some of the tallest trees in the world are 400 years old. We continue being a little adventurous by walking through the treetops at 40 meters above the ground on a suspension walkway.
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
