Coast to Coast

Travelling from one side to the other, Brisbane to Perth, to explore this big beautiful country with our Colombian friend. Leia mais
  • Hellfire Bay

    17 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We had one of the top 10 beaches in the world basically all to ourselves. Sure, it was a little cold at the start and the waves hurt when they smacked you in the face, but it was such a good morning "swimming" there. It wasn't until afterward, when we went for a walk up the rocks, that I was left alone with a snake friend.Leia mais

  • Wharton Beach

    17 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Another beautiful and almost empty beach. We stopped here for a calmer swim.

Another place to rant about the 4WDers... There's that entire beach to park on, and at one point Juanes was sunbathing on the sand when someone just came up and parked directly in front of him. It wasn't until Alex went up to talk to Juanes that they came over to say, "Sorry, are we disturbing you?" I mean, seriously, I just rolled my eyes and shook my head from the water. Lol.Leia mais

  • Great Ocean Drive

    18 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Instead of listing each location, I'll just add them all here. These are a bunch of the stops and lookouts for the different beaches as part of the Great Ocean Drive in this area. Admittedly, this is the kind of drive we hoped the Great Ocean Road in Vic was going to be like. Stunning coastline, and around every corner seemed to be a new type or style of beach formation.Leia mais

  • Esperance Stonehenge

    18 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Only something you could believe by being there. A complete, to-scale Stonehenge, perfectly aligned with the solstice, here in Esperance. Even with modern construction methods, this required a lot of effort and manpower to complete. So it only adds to the curiosity for the originals. Super impressive.Leia mais

  • Barrens Beach

    19 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We left Esperance this morning and began heading west again. It was nice to spend a few days in the same place.

Our first stop for a swim was Barrens Beach, where we got in among the rocks to use our new full-face snorkel set that we got for Christmas.Leia mais

  • Orcas

    20 de fevereiro, Great Australian Bight ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Shortly after the dolphins, we saw what they were running from, finally found the orcas... But they were in stealth mode and not really wanting to be found. "Slinky" was the word being used in the Captain's Lounge. Super slow, barely breaking the water, minimal noise. It was likely they were stalking something. Interestingly, this is back at the initial location that we arrived in; more than likely, they were here the entire time. What gave away their location are the circling birds, looking out for possible scraps they were the sign the crew were looking for to point in the right direction. The beautiful big albatross was one of those birds.Leia mais

  • Sperm Whale

    20 de fevereiro, Great Australian Bight ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

And this appears to have been what the orcas were stalking. They knew this big sperm whale was in the area and were following its journey. There isn't much chance that the orcas were going to attack it, but they were definitely watching with interest. The sperm whale was oxygenating itself and ready for a long dive; it can hold its breath considerably longer than the orcas can, so it was definitely going where it intended. Interestingly, whalers would count the breaths of the sperm whales because each breath roughly meant one minute underwater, so they could estimate when it would resurface.

Then finally, the tail went up as it began its dive.

Shortly after this, we headed back with a celebratory champagne. Unfortunately, a few sips into that, and I began to throw up in the Captain's Lounge and on one of the other guests' bag. That's VIP for you.

  • Sharp Point

    21 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

On our way again, leaving Bremer Bay behind. First stop is just south of Albany at Sharp Point. It took us a little longer to get here then planned as Juanes said he might have an ear infection. So we stopped at a pharmacy first in Albany.Leia mais

  • Albany Historic Whaling Station

    21 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

Wow, what an emotional kind of place, more so knowing it was operating up until the end of 1978. The only complete Whaling Station in the world, and it preserved a whaling ship. After seeing such big, beautiful creatures yesterday, I can only imagine the blood-stained beaches from their harvesting today. When thinking of whaling, you get a feeling it was colonial history, but nope, it only stopped in Australia a few years before I was born.Leia mais

  • Misery Beach

    21 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

A small beach, but was pretty enough to stop for a swim. Also named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world despite it's size. But it didn't always look that pretty, hence the name. With this beach being one of the closest to the whaling station it was also a beach soaked in red blood stains.Leia mais

  • Longest Zorb roll in the World

    21 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Somehow Alex thought this was a good idea. I swear I almost passed out twice. Two minutes of literally no control, bouncing around inside a ball of cold water on someone's property. Poor Juanes had to do it three times because I refused to do my second run. One of them he did with linked arms with Alex in the same ball. At least we got a warm Milo at the end.Leia mais

  • Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse

    22 de fevereiro, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

It wasn't open yet and apparently we were already late (Yes i know, it was only 8:35), getting up in the mornings had been a challenge I admit. So this is the closest view we got of the Lighthouse that guards the south-western most tip of the mainland and where the two oceans meet.Leia mais
