    Introduction Con Dao Prison

The Con Dao prison, also known as Con Dao Island prison, was a penal colony located on the Con Dao Islands in Vietnam. It was known for its harsh conditions and was used by the French colonial government in Vietnam and later by the South Vietnamese government as a place to imprison and detain political prisoners, including those who opposed the Vietnam War. The prison gained infamy for its use of torture, inhumane treatment of prisoners, and high mortality rate. Many notable figures, including Ho Chi Minh, were imprisoned at Con Dao. The prison was closed in the 1970s, but it has been preserved as a museum and is now a popular tourist destination in Vietnam.Read more
