Day 39. Villafranca to Vega de Valcarce

Isabelle left early this morning and I left later after a good breakfast into a sunny and freezingly cold morning. Did not take my warm jacket off until my arrival at today's destination at 13:30h!

I had the choice between walking along the old Nacional route which winds its way along a valley - flat and hardly any traffic or steeply up (according to the map) and one kilometre longer over the top and down again. Since I have the extremely hard (from what I hear) climb to O Cebreiro coming up I am keeping my strength for that.

Arrived very early after a beautiful walk which followed first one then another valley, the valley of the Valcarce, winding in and out under the motorway which up high went more or less straight. However it was dreadfully cold, mostly in the shade (being at the bottom of this valley) and with a fair breeze blowing which in a summer's heat would have been wonderful.Læs mere
