Palau de la Música Catalana (I)

A gem of the Modernismo, with the cornerstone laid on 23 April 1905, Saint George Day. This building was the creation of the Orfeó Català which was both a choir and an organisation dedicated to creating and training choirs...out of progressive idealism, to divert worker's hours from the bars into the arts, and to preserve and teach Catalán songs. The Palau therefore teems with the symbols of Catalán nationalism, from the cornerstone being laid on the saint's day of the patron saint of Catalonia, to the profusion of roses throughout the decorations.Leia mais
