  • Great Ocean Road, Part II

    22 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

The second Part of this scenic route took us to the twelve Apostels - impressive rocks in front of the coastline. Massive waves are breaking into this huge formations which gives you a little understanding about the power and beauty of nature.
In this area you can visit a lot of other rock formations or caves along the cliffs.

With our camper we were able to do whatever we want and to stop wherever we want which gave us the sense of freedom we’re exactly looking for on this trip.

One night we were camping at the beach with some Aussie friends we met on the road. Together we were sitting at a bonfire and watching the stars.

We also had some more encounters with Australien Wildlife. Some of them where fascinating like the one with the Echidna, others were quite frightening. To spot a snake in Australia right in front of you on the path is freaking scary, when you read all the warnings about how poisonous they can be.

  • Mt. Kosciusko National Park

    27 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Mount Kosciusko is the highest point of mainland Australia. With 2200m Kosciusko seems not to high, compared to the mountains we hiked in South America. But to be honest we still were exhausted after the 18km summit walk, since we didn’t do a lot of hiking in Southeast Asia.
We had beautiful weather and enjoyed the landscapes a lot, were we also spot some Kangaroos and Emus.

  • Eastcoast - South of Sydney

    29 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

After our hiking tour at Mount Kosciusko we went straight to the coastline south of Sydney. At the second we arrived the coast, the weather changed dramatically. For the whole time until we reached Sydney we had rain and heavy winds. We sadly couldn’t enjoy all the beautiful places like Batemans Bay or Jervis Bay properly. Whenever the rain stopped we went outside to see some of the beaches and the Kiama Blowhole, a cave where the waves blow a huge fountain out of a hole.
Most of the time we spent in our camper or in Pubs to have some fish and chips.

One of the campgrounds was very special due to the fact that wild kangaroos are everything. Although they are wild animals one of the kangaroos came super close with its baby and even let itself be petted. ☺️

  • Sydney

    3 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

What an impressive City. Although I would rather live in Melbourne, Sydney was amazing. We really felt like being in an world metropolis with all of the iconic views and buildings.
As soon as we arrived in Sydney, the sun was back. So we had four beautiful days to explore this huge city. At the first day we did a free walking tour to get an overview and a little insight of the history of Sydney. We also took the ferry to Watsons Bay and the bus to famous Bondi Beach.

You simply cannot get enough of the harbour view. It Doesn’t matter if you’re standing at the botanical gardens or in the hip district “the rocks” (Which was our favorite one, by the way).
In the evening we went to one of the fancy hidden bars you can find all over the city, to have an expensive drink 😅

  • Byron Bay

    7 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Byron Bay is what you would expect of an Aussie Surfer village. A beautiful beach, an excellent vibe, bars, cafes and restaurants everywhere. We spent in total three days in this cute town and enjoyed this little break from being on the road. One night we went to the cinema to have a cheesy date night 😁
Something worth to see, is the sunrise from the popular lighthouse lookout.

  • Gold Coast

    10 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Gold Coast is one of the most popular holiday locations. Along the famous beaches like “surfers paradise” you can find plenty of huge hotel complexes. This creates an atmosphere we didn’t really like.
To escape the busy beach promenade we went to Coombabah Conservation Park for a little walk. In the evening we finally made it to an Australian Football game. It’s a mix between rugby, soccer and American football and we enjoyed it a lot how frenetic the fans were cheering for their teams.

  • Brisbane

    13 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Brisbane is maybe not as exciting or beautiful as Melbourne or Sydney, but still worth a visit.
Especially Southbank was beautiful with loads of Cafés, Restaurants & Bars. Besides that Brisbane offers a large amount of museums and the famous city lagoon with a sand beach.Leia mais

  • Fraser Island

    19 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world and home to different landscapes, like mangroves, dunes, swamps, eukalyptus and fern forests.
With a huge off-road bus we were driving along the long and wide beach. We went for a swim to beautiful lake Mackenzie in the middle of the island and we visited the iconic ship wreck. On our way back we even managed to see a Dingo, an Australian wild dog.Leia mais

  • Airlie Beach & Withsunday Islands

    28 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Airlie Beach and the Withsundays are without a doubt one of the main attractions around Australias east coast. After our first 4 days of pouring rain we almost left Airlie Beach without seeing anything of its beauty. But finally on our last two days we were able to do a sailing trip to Whitehaven Beach and a scenic flight above the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. An absolutely stunning way to experience this special places.Leia mais

  • Magnetic Island

    29 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

You can take a 40 minutes ferry from Townsville to get to this beautiful, tiny island where you can hike, snorkel or just relax on one of the amazing beaches.
During a small hike at the center of the island we were able to spot koalas in the Eucalyptus trees. At the summit of the hills you have an incredible view of the entire island.
The absolute highlight are the rock wallabies living on magnetic island. They’re very curious and you are allow to feed them with carrots or apples. We spent hours there, feeding this cute little creatures.

  • Skydive Mission Beach

    2 de maio de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

For my birthday in March, Laura was giving me a special present: a skydive in Australia.
Normally I am a bit scared of heights, but I’m also fascinated of skydiving. At the beginning I wasn’t really sure if I am happy about her present.
We chose Mission Beach as our location due to the fact that you are landing directly on the beach.
The entire crew was incredible and created a fantastic atmosphere, which helped me a lot to be a bit more relaxed.
The second we jumped out of the plane I lost all my fears and tensions. There are no words to describe that feeling of free falling. We were falling about 60 sec until the parachute was opened. The view across the ocean and Mission beach made this experience even more perfect and the landing on the sand was just smooth.

    An experience I’ll never forget.

  • Atherton Tablelands

    2 de maio de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Besides the Millaa Millaa falls (which is maybe the most perfect waterfall you can think of), the Atherton Tablelands gave us the opportunity to spot the most elusive animal of Australia: the platypus! We’d try to find this fascinating creature at many different places but we were unlucky all the time. Until we arrived in Yungaburra. At a little creek called Peterson we had five encounters with a platypus which made us so happy.Leia mais

  • Daintree, Pourt Douglas & Palm Cove

    3 de maio de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Our last three stops before returning our little camper van which was our home for 7 weeks.
At Daintree river we did a river cruise to meet the “Salties”, the largest crocodiles on earth. We saw them in all different ages and sizes. The kargest was more than 5 meters long and 700kg heavy.

On our way to Cairns we stopped at Port Douglas and Palm Cove. Two cute little villages in the tropic north with nice promenades full of shops, cafes and restaurants.

  • Cairns & Great Barrier Reef

    6 de maio de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Cairns was the end of our 7 weeks road trip. We drove more than 7.800 km from Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide and all the way up the Australian east coast. What an adventure.
But Cairns was also the place where we have been when we celebrated our anniversary of being on travels for one year. Due to that special occasion we booked a diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef to celebrate ourselves. What a year full of experiences and adventures.
Cairns itself isn’t that special but still quiet nice.

    365 Days around the world.

  • Walga Rock

    30 de maio de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

The last stop of our road trip in WA was Walga Rock. Like the famous Ayer’s Rock (or Uluru in the language of the indigenous people), Walga rock is a granite monolith. With it’s red color it seemed to glow in the evening sun. From the rock we had a stunning view over the Australian Outback.
At Walga Rock you can also find the largest amount of rock paintings of the indigenous.
