ND to MT. Impressed. Vast. Very nice people. Got in to Custer State Forest, MT. In camp. Cold. Back to long-drops and bring your own TP, but... sites are unmarked, no host, no "thou shalt pay" so... we presume the site is free.
It got cold fast. We took to Interstates to make time. Yellowstone River is big and flowing fast. Started off the day with blue skies and myself in nightmare negative territory ( apartheid barrel of the gun enforcement issues). However, seemed as the day clouded over (quite heavily) my mood improved.
I drove from just inside MT. into this camp.
Near zero traffic. Yes, MT. is big. Yes. it is lovely. Yes, I could live here - for a short summer. Yes, winter in these Northern Plains must be horrendous! Long, windswept rolling grasslands. Zero shelter. Cattle are left to survive with minimum shelter - a few tin plates as wind- break. That is cruel. No - that is horrendous!
Camp has lovely yellow sweet clover, with pines and watery western sun just breaking through.
We met our target destination today, plus some more miles.
