🇬🇧 Today we took the shuttle bus to Zealandia which is a wildlife reserve right in the middle of Wellington. 25 years ago they built a 2m high predator fence and removed all rats, possums and other predators from the area, and today an abundance of native bird species are thriving in the area, including species that are otherwise extinct on the mainland. We spent 5 hours walking all around the bush and watching birds of all shapes and sizes, as well as native reptiles (not lizards) called tuatara.

🇩🇪 Heute fuhren wir mit dem Shuttlebus nach Zealandia, einem Wildreservat mitten in Wellington. Vor 25 Jahren wurde dort ein 2 m hoher Raubtierzaun errichtet und alle Ratten, Opossums und andere Raubtiere aus dem Gebiet entfernt. Heute leben auf dem Gelände viele einheimische Vogelarten, darunter auch Arten, die auf dem Festland sonst ausgestorben sind. Wir verbrachten 5 Stunden damit, durch den Busch zu laufen und Vögel aller Formen und Größen sowie einheimische Reptilien (keine Eidechsen) namens Tuatara zu beobachten.Read more
